A basketball coach has clapped back at haters who claimed her game day outfit was “inappropriate.”

Former Women’s NBA player and assistant recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M University, Sydney Carter, took to Twitter to share her outfit as she stood courtside, watching the Texas A&M basketball team play their 22nd game.

However, Carter’s white turtleneck jumper and hot pink leather trousers drew criticism from online trolls, after Carter posted the picture on Twitter.

One troll wrote: “She dressed like she's hitting the bar. I guess she prefers to look good rather than be good seeing her team's record....”

A second complained: “It’s not the proper attire for a coach to wear,” and a third agreed: “Why would you dress in pants that tight to coach?”

Sydney said she should express her individuality (

Thankfully, decent people were there to support Carter – rightfully pointing out that a woman needn’t police the way she dresses.

“Why is it necessary to have an opinion about what this young lady decides to wear?” one person said.

“You looked FAB in your outfit!” added a second. “People that can’t do it, hate it! But many can and did! Keep styling! Love to see it!”

“There is nothing wrong with the way she is dressed and for the folks that have issue with don't watch or go to the game,” she said. “This woman dresses for herself not you.”

Carter, who always posts pictures of her outfits at basketball games, responded to the criticism she received.

In a statement she issued on Twitter, Carter wrote: “Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words over the last few days.

“Representation matters. As a Black woman in coaching, I take pride in showing that people who look like me don’t have to diminish our light to appeal to others, whose opinions never mattered anyway.

“I will continue to unapologetically be myself, apply pressure and show that Black women can express our individuality while doing our jobs at a high level.”

Well, we think Sydney looks incredible.
