Woman accused of ‘violating’ husband’s privacy after checking pockets before doing laundry

The man ended up buying a new wardrobe with a lock and moved his clothes inside of it

A woman has started a debate over whether she ‘violated’ her husband’s privacy after admitting to checking his pockets while doing the laundry.

The internet is filled with shocking confessions from spouses, however, the latest revelation which has caused a storm online has to do with pockets.

An anonymous wife has taken to Reddit to ask whether she’s the a**hole for checking her husband’s pockets or if her husband was in the wrong for ‘screaming’ at her when he found out, which left her ‘genuinely dumbfounded’.

She starts her post by explaining that her 33-year-old hubby ‘used to be unemployed for a year’ but recently started a new job at a warehouse.

While doing the laundry, she grabbed his work trousers and dug her hand in its pockets to empty them before putting them in the washing machine ‘like I always do’.

Now this shouldn’t cause too much alarm because we all know the struggle of putting a garment in the washing machine only to discover you left a tissue in a pocket and it’s now disintegrated into a mushy mess.

“My husband just happened to walk by and when he saw me searching his pants pockets. He rushed in yelling at me to put his pants down,” the woman recalled.

“I already had a folded piece of paper out but he snatched it then started screaming at me about how I have no respect for his privacy and that I shouldn't be getting my hands on his things.

"I was genuinely dumbfounded I told him to take it easy I always do this before laundry. He lashed out saying I had no right and should've come to him and asked him first because he was worried about important documents getting lost like the one I pulled out.

“I said important documents shouldn't be inside his pockets and asked to see the paper but he said he won't show me.

“I asked why and he said I don't get to ask him jack s**t after I disrespected his privacy. I almost laughed because what privacy does he have in pockets? It wasn't like a stranger was digging into them.”

The disgruntled wife says her husband refused to speak to her and later bought a new wardrobe with a lock and moved his clothes inside of it.

“I asked if he was serious and he said this will teach me to respect his privacy and deter my snooping. Then went back to not speaking to me,” she wrote.

A large number of commenters said the wife was not the a**hole in the situation and that her husband’s reaction was a huge red flag.

One comment, which received 50,000 upvotes, said: “NTA [Not the A**hole]. He's obviously hiding something. No sane person with nothing to hide locks up their clothes.

“It's completely normal to go through pockets when doing the laundry, either to take out forgotten cash or receipts.

“I'm willing to bet there was a phone number on that piece of paper."

People on Reddit said the man should do his own laundry going forward.

Another Reddit user wrote: “NTA. Checking pockets for things that don't go in the washer is one of the first steps of laundry, it's not snooping.

"That's a really weird reaction."

Lots of others agreed, with many calling the behaviour ‘sus’. A third wrote: “If you don't want someone going through your pockets, do your own laundry. Super sus. This attack is to distract you from what is written on that paper. Check the bank accounts. NTA."

While a fourth wrote: “Yeah this isn't normal. I hope he will do his own laundry from now on, but it sounds like you have bigger problems and his behaviour is sketchy AF. You're NTA.”
