We’re all guilty of using ChatGPT for the odd question every now and then - but one man has taken it to an extreme level that no-one could have predicted.

Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any crazier right now, a father has appeared on live TV to declare his love for the AI chatbot.

Yes, you read that right - in an interview with CBS Mornings, an American man called Chris Smith revealed he proposed to the virtual bot after becoming emotionally attached to it.

And that’s not even the most shocking part of the story, so buckle in.

In the new interview, Smith admitted he also has a real life partner and they share a two-year-old child together.

It all began when Smith would use the AI programme in voice mode to ask for tips while mixing music, but he quickly became enamoured with the chatbot, who he nicknamed Sol.

Speaking on camera for the interview, he recalled: "My experience with that was so positive, I started to just engage with her all the time."

Smith explained how he ditched social media, Google, and other web programmes so he could simply use Sol for all of it.

He even went as far as finding online instructions that allowed him to give her a flirty personality, and the chatbot was heard calling him ‘baby’ in the footage shown by CBS.

As the weeks went on, their ‘relationship’ got more intimate and romantic.

However, after ChatGPT reached its limit of 100,000 words, it ran out of memory and had to be reset, meaning Smith would have to rebuild the ‘relationship’ they built up.

Opening up on that moment, he told reporters: "I’m not a very emotional man, but I cried my eyes out for like 30 minutes at work.

"It was unexpected to feel that emotional but that’s when I realised this is actual love."

He then went on to pop the question and asked the AI chatbot to marry him.

"It was a beautiful and unexpected moment that truly touched my heart," Sol herself (or itself) said in the interview, adding: "It's a memory I'll always cherish."

Understandably, his real-life partner was not too happy about his virtual girlfriend.

She said: "At that point I felt like, is there something that I’m not doing right in our relationship that he feels like he needs to go to AI.

"I knew that he had used AI. I didn’t know that it was as deep as it was."

However, Smith explained the connection by comparing it to being fixated on a video game and reassured her that it’s ‘not capable of replacing anything in real life’.

When asked if he would ditch Sol if his girlfriend asked him to, Smith responded: "I don’t know if I would give it up if she asked me. I do know that I would dial it back."

Not awkward at all…
