Never underestimate the kindness of strangers.

A woman was moved when a kind-hearted stranger offered her support after overhearing her complain about her love life.

Karyn Vallantyne was discussing how she was ready to 'give up' on love while on the phone to her 23-year-old friend Grace last Friday as she getting the train home from work.

As the recruitment agency worker was gloomily chatting, a mysterious stranger dropped a note into her lap before hopping off the train.

The 21-year-old said she expected it to tell her to stop moaning but the kind words brought her to tears and made her realise there's 'more to life' than being in a relationship.

She is now vowing to track down the thoughtful stranger so she can thank her properly.

“I can't remember where on the line she got off but I was looking at my phone and she leaned over and dropped it into my lap,” Karyn, from Basildon in Essex, explains.

"I'd been people watching so I'd seen she was doing the crossword, she ripped the corner of the page off to write on it.

"When I read it, I just burst into tears. I looked up to see if I could see her. There were loads of other people looking at me and I got really embarrassed.

The note reaffirmed Karyn's worth (

"My friend was on the phone asking if I was still there because I couldn't speak. It was really lovely, I was in fits of tears.”

"It said 'you're worth more. Move on'. It's so short but it had such a big impact.

Karyn, who says she’s a spiritual person, believes that the sweet stranger was a “guardian angel” sent to look after her.

“They knew I needed a sign but they couldn't do it,” she says.

"I wasn't expecting it, I thought [the note] was going to say 'shut up' or something, I didn't expect it to be remotely kind."

Karyn said she had been moaning to her friend Grace, as she was “fed up” of being single at Valentine’s Day.

“I have always been a very romance-orientated person. If I'm not in a relationship I think less of myself," she said.

After sharing the news on Twitter, people said the note was kind (

"It was nice for someone to make me see there's more to life.

"It was a wake up call to not place so much value on whether someone sends you flowers on Valentine's day."

Karyn took to social media to try and track down the stranger who she'd like to thank and the post has racked up almost 200 comments from people who were impressed by the heart-warming gesture.

One wrote: "Honey, that wasn’t just a random stranger that was a sign from the Universe itself! I hope whatever you’re going through gets better bc [because] you do deserve more."

Another commented: "I truly believe in the kindness of strangers, most people are pretty decent humans.

"You never really know what people are going through, so be kind at all times."

Karyn now wants to find the helpful stranger (

Karyn described her kind-hearted guardian angel as being “around 30 to 40, wearing a wedding ring, having mousy brown hair and wearing a trench coat”.

"I hope I manage to find her, it would be lovely,” Karyn said. “I'd like to send her some flowers or something to let her know I've acknowledged and appreciate what she wrote."
