Two bodies have been recovered from the wreck of a yacht that sank in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday (19 August), bringing the total death toll up to three.

Scuba divers have spent the last two days scouring the wreck of the yacht - known as the Bayesian, which sails under the British flag.

Twelve passengers who were travelling within the vessel were guests, while 10 were crew.

After a number of rescues, authorities alerted the public that six individuals remained missing.

According to local Italian media, the body of one individual - believed to be the yacht's on-board chef - was immediately found near the shipwreck on Monday.

And in a new development today, divers have found a further two bodies inside the wreckage, according to Reuters.

One of the bodies is understood to belong to a heavily built man, according to sources on the scene.

Among those missing are British businessman Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter as well as Jonathan Bloomer, a non-executive chair of Morgan Stanley International.

More to come.
