Holidays can be expensive, with some hitting our bank balance a bit more than others.

Yet one holiday that could have you wincing is a 'family friendly' trip to a Queensland caravan park, where it could cost you £775 a night.

Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, located in South East Queensland’s Moreton Bay region, has angered holidaymakers as it offers a new luxury place to stay with three bedroom overwater villas but they come with a hefty price tag.

The new villas can set you back a whopping £775 a night at this Queensland caravan park.

On the website it states that each of the six villas can sleep six people, are fully air-conditioned, contain two bathrooms, a kitchen, dining and living room, indoor fireplace, BBQ, heated plunge pool, two deck spaces and many more things to make the ultimate luxury stay.

Yet it's not the place itself that has upset regular visitors, but the price.

The luxury stay will set you back $1,500 AUD, the equivalent of £775 a night. And while the facilities are high end, some angry visitors pointed out the price as they blasted the resort for marketing itself as 'family friendly'.

One angry user wrote: "Can fly to Bali for 7 nights for two people!!"

Another shared: "Yesterday they had them up for $1,500 a night! Either way, it’s wild!"

A third said: "Sandstone used to be a cost-effective holiday destination, not so much anymore."

Some guests have hit back at Sandstone Point Holiday Resort for its new luxury accommodation.

Another potential visitor pointed out that the resort had a minimum stay for the luxury villas, making it expensive across four nights.

They added: "We were looking at five nights Sept 2024 and it was $1,500 per night. Unfortunately way out of our budget. I thought maybe we could do just a night or two but it had a four-night minimum for our dates."

Not everyone was against the resort though, as some saw it as 'worth every penny'.

One guest added: "We are staying here right now for three nights over Xmas, upgraded from our original villa booking. First ever guests to check in and I can vouch that these overwater villas are incredible and worth every cent! Plenty of room for our family of five, our children’s ages range from eight-23yrs and they’re all loving it!"

A second praised: "Absolutely stunning villas. The stylist of these and this park should be very proud. The whole park is the best we've ever stayed at."

Others said the resort was 'a magical experience'.

In response to the comments around its new accommodation, a spokesperson for Sandstone Point Hotel & Holiday Resort told Tyla: "We are super excited to have introduced such a unique luxury product to the Moreton Bay Region. Our resort proudly serves a remarkably diverse customer base and that is why we have so many different accommodation options. Whether guests are staying in a tent, caravan, Studio Villa, Family Villa or Overwater Villa, we ensure there's something extraordinary for every budget and taste."

It continued: "Since launching the Overwater Villas, they have proved to be just as popular as our other accommodation options. Securing a reservation on weekends, as well as during peak periods like long weekends, school holidays, and special events, has become increasingly challenging. Our Overwater Villas have emerged as an irresistible favourite among our guests, booking out well in advance.

‌"Our three-bedroom villas stand as a pinnacle of luxury, offering access to an exclusive lagoon and a private plunge pool. The pricing is aligned with the unparalleled quality and premium experience we provide."
