People are just realising you don't need £1 coin to unlock supermarket trollies

People are just realising you don't need £1 coin to unlock supermarket trollies

People are only just realising you don’t need the coin, after all.

It’s got to be one of the worst things in life when you rock up to the supermarket ready to make your weekly shop and you don’t have a £1 coin to hand to unlock the trolley.

Well, people are only just realising you don’t need the coin after all to get your hands on a cart - and it's pretty game-changing.

One savvy supermarket guru headed to TikTok to share the genius hack, and it’s safe to say people are shocked.

TikTok user @tasha3212 captioned the video: “When some lady shows you this at Tesco. How am I only just learning this?”

While Tasha had access to other change, she didn't have the much-needed £1 coin which she required to unlock the trolley - or so she thought.

Stacking two 20p coins on top of each other, Tasha showed how you can simply slot them both into the slot which is usually reserved for £1 coins.

Once she pushed them into the slot, out came the lock, prompting a slew of commenters to commend the woman for trying the hack.

“Fabulous,” one person commented beneath the video, while another onlooker added: “I have to try that one.”

“Need to remember that,” a third added, while a different viewer penned: “I need to try this.”

Meanwhile, other viewers beneath the video noted that they were already aware of the hack and confirmed that it works for them.

“Me and my husband always do this,” one TikTok user wrote, while another said: “I've done it, no problem.”

However, others explained how when they tried this at other supermarkets, it failed.

“I did this in Aldi and it got stuck. Bunch of people surrounded the trolly helping me get it out, they probably thought I had no brain cells,” someone bravely admitted.

It is also important to note that trying this hack probably isn’t the official advice of the main supermarkets, and you may lose your 20p coins in the process.

Tyla has contacted Tesco for a comment on the hack.

Elsewhere in hidden supermarket trolley hacks, one mum realised that her shopping experience was never going to be the same again after discovering the hidden use that her cart had.

Gemma Bird, who goes by the name Money Mum on TikTok account, showed off the two hoops at the front of a trolley in the video and revealed their true purpose - and we’re pretty shook, if we say so ourselves.
