As it turns out, the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, go by different names when they are at school. But why?

When it comes to the Royal Family and their customs, it turns out a lot of the choices they make are firmly rooted in years of sacred tradition.

The royal kids have been going by different names during school since 2022.

According to Heart, the change is tied to William and Kate's change from being known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to the Prince and Princess of Wales.

The change came into effect the day after William's dad, Charles, became King Charles III on 8 September, 2022.

The family then relocated to Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom property in Windsor Home Park.

It has a rich history, having originally been built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide.

George, Charlotte and Louis attend the prestigious Lambrook School, but since their parents' titles have changed - so have the names they go by when studying there.

Initially, their names were changed from Mountbatten-Windsor to Cambridge to reflect their parent's position at the time.

Keeping in with the change, they are now known as George Wales, Charlotte Wales and Louis Wales.

The cute tradition links back further to when William himself was at school alongside his brother, Prince Harry.

The royals were known as William Wales and Harry Wales, reflecting the title of their parents, Diana, Princess of Wales, and Charles, Prince of Wales.

The school that the children attend costs a very pretty penny.

In case you wanted to feel extra broke today, it turns out that if you wanted to send your child to their middle and upper school, where Prince George is currently enrolled, it'd cost you £8,238 per term.

Being a future King and all, we're sure George thinks it's a great fit.

The amenities include a golf course, swimming pool, theatre and sports centre.

Lambrook keeps teaching students until they reach the age of 13, and it's not yet clear which school the 11-year-old will attend next.

Some people reckon it's Eton, where his dad attended - which costs an eye watering £17,583 three times a year.

Other people have put forward the suggestion that mum Kate may be holding our hope that George and his siblings will follow in her footsteps and attend Marlborough College, as she and her siblings did.
