One day, Kate Middleton will become queen, but despite us all knowing what her future role will be, a question on whether her parents will also get titles remains.

From William’s university sweetheart to Duchess of Cambridge and now Princess of Wales, Kate’s journey through the ranks of royalty will ultimately lead to her becoming Queen Consort when her husband becomes King William V.

One royal tradition takes centre stage: titles. Names and titles carry centuries of history, and it can be confusing. Which lends the question of what exactly will Kate’s title be when she ascends to the throne alongside Prince William.

When William becomes king, Kate Middleton will become queen consort.

However, Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are highly unlikely to receive titles themselves. Despite being very close to the royal family, particularly their son-in-law and future king, it is doubtful that they will also acquire titles, according to royal experts per Vanity Fair.

Carole Middleton is a former stewardess turned businesswoman who married Kate’s father, Michael Middleton, in 1980. The pair share three children, including the Princess of Wales and her younger siblings Pippa, 41, and James, 38.

And while it may be unlikley, rumours in English high society have said that Carole and Michael deserve the title of earls, something which has never happened before. Other royal insiders have said that since the Middleton family have played an integral role in supporting the Prince and Princess of Wales amid her cancer treatment, they deserve titles.

Kate’s parents won’t automatically receive titles when their daughter becomes queen, but there is a possibility that they could be awarded with a title as an honour for their ongoing support.

A previous report by the Daily Mail suggested that they could become Earl and Lady Bucklebury, as the Middletons live in Bucklebery, Berkshire.

However, royal insiders appear to agree that noble titles for Kate’s parents probably won’t happen.

Kate's parents have long been involved with the royal family as the pair started dating, and were even portrayed in the Netflix drama series The Crown, with Carole Middleton being depicted as the 'mastermind' behind her romance with William.

In the sixth and final season, Carole takes centre stage in episodes ‘Alma Mater’ and ‘Hope Street’.

She is portrayed by House of the Dragon actress Eve Best.

At one point, Meg Ballamy, who portrayed Kate in the royal drama, accuses her mother of meddling in her affairs to get her closer to the future King of Britain (Edward McVey).

“I was all set to go to Edinburgh University straight out of school with all of my friends. Then you suggested I change it to St. Andrews after a gap year,” the character of Kate exclaimed, as per Vanity Fair.

“With none of my friends. That was no coincidence…. Was it a coincidence you encouraged me to sign up for the art school in Florence where William was expected to go?

“And then to the expedition in Chile as well. Where he went…. Once you had the idea fixed in your head, you never stopped.”

“You said you liked him!,” the TV character’s mother replied.

Well, it seems everything worked out in the end!
