The heartwarming meaning behind Princess Eugenie’s baby girl’s name has been revealed, including the sweet nod to her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
On 3 August, Eugenie, 36, welcomed her first daughter with her husband Jack Brooksbank, 40, announcing the exciting news on Instagram along with a sweet picture of the newborn.
And now the royal couple, who already share two young sons, August, five, and Ernest, three, have finally revealed the baby girl’s name as Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.
On Monday (17 August), she shared new snaps of the little one, including a sweet photo with her big brothers, and revealed that she’s named after ‘three people we love and admire past and present’.

She wrote in the caption: “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we've had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.
“We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts.”

Eugenie continued: “Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home. Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”
So, who are the people behind the moniker?
As outlined by Hello! Magazine, the baby’s first name Adelaide was inspired by not one but two historical figures - Queen Adelaide, who was married to the UK's King William IV (1792-1849) and Maria Adelaide of Portugal, a member of the House of Braganza and a World War II resistance hero.
Queen Adelaide inspired the name of the city of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, while Maria Adelaide of Portugal was born in Porto in 1835, lived to 100, and was one of Portugal's most popular uncanonised saints.

Eugenie and Jack currently split their time between the UK and Portugal, with baby Adelaide being born in the latter.
As for her first middle name, Elizabeth, this one is pretty self-explanatory as a tribute to Eugenie’s grandmother and Adelaide’s great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth who died in September 2022.
Finally, though, the name Annina is one that’s left royal fans perplexed, with the direct meaning yet to be revealed.
Hello! reports that Eugenie does have a pal named Annina Pfuel, a Bavarian-born designer who is the daughter of Count Christian Bruges-von Pfuel.
She is a creative director, costume and set designer for productions in opera, music videos, film and fashion.
However, it’s unknown whether this is the Annina that the newborn has been named after.

One royal fan wrote in the comments: “Such a beautiful name and lovely pictures. I’m sure the late Queen is so happy with this wonderful and proper tribute.”
While a second penned: “Welcome, Adelaide! What a beautiful name!”
A third agreed: “As an Australian, I heartily approve the name, Adelaide. A beautiful city & a beautiful baby girl. May she have a blessed & happy life.”
And a fourth gushed: “Congratulations, Your Royal Highness and Mr Brooksbank, what a beautiful name to match a beautiful daughter.”
