Royal family fans have come up with an interesting theory on why Prince George wasn’t at the Women’s Euros Final with his dad and sister on Sunday (27 July).
Prince William and Princess Charlotte enjoyed a father-daughter day out as they attended the exciting match at St Jakobs Park in Basel, Switzerland.
They looked delighted as they watched England triumph over Spain following a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Forward Chloe Kelly secured the incredible victory by scoring the winning goal, leading the Lionesses to become the first ever senior team to defend their Euros win since the women’s tournament began in 1984.

However, royal family fans couldn’t help but question why William had only brought Charlotte with him to the final, leaving Prince George and Prince Louis at home.
Taking to social media, football fanatics took issue with this, as one asked on Twitter: “Where's Prince George, who is a huge England football fan? Is the women's game not equal to the men's then?”

Another added: “Again Prince William sending the message that women’s football is not real football; it’s football for girls. He’s never taken Charlotte to a men’s game, just George. Unlike Felipe, who takes Infanta Sofia to men’s games as well."

And a third chimed in with: "I’m wondering if it is that Prince George doesn’t care for women’s football or Prince William thinks it’s not for boys to watch and support, so Charlotte is assigned to support the Lionesses instead? That would be very backward thinking, but that’s how I think he is."
Someone else agreed: “Imo Prince William should have brought George as well as Charlotte. Men and boys are fans of England Women. England Women inspire boys as well as girls. #Lionesses.”
But, people have now seemingly come up with a theory that the reasoning behind George’s absence was actually to do with travel - specifically, the royal protocol surrounding it.

On 22 July, George turned 12, which meant a centuries-old royal tradition came into play - and if his parents chose to abide by it, he’s no longer allowed to travel with his father.
This is because the two members in succession must be kept apart in case of worst case scenarios, therefore protecting the monarchy and line of succession.
While it may seem dark, it is a tradition that’s always been upheld and is simply there to ensure there is an heir in case of the very worst situation, such as a plane crash.
Pointing out that this could be the reason, reacting to the Euros backlash, one person wrote: “George, as he is now 12 cannot travel with William in case heaven forbid they are involved in an accident. It would be the same situation with William and George if they were travelling anywhere.”

Another pointed out: “As George is now of age I don’t think he can be with William flying etc. Honestly leave them alone. Charlotte had a great time with 1-1 dad time!”
While a third added: “Charlotte was taken as she loves football too plus Prince William and Prince George should no longer be travelling together now he has turned 12 - protocol dictates this…..unless special permission is granted by the King.”
And another social media user agreed: “Prince Louis is too young and Prince George is not allowed to travel on the same plane as his dad, this has been a tradition of the royal family for years. It was lovely to see Princess Charlotte supporting the Lionesses.”

Meanwhile, someone else simply questioned: “Wonder if it’s anything to do with him and George not being able to fly together. Doesn’t that come in to effect from the age of 12?”
Elsewhere, other royal family fans simply pointed out that William and Charlotte should be allowed to enjoy time together as a duo.
One person explained: “It’s probably something just for her. Something special with her dad and for the country. It’s lovely!”
And a second wrote: “Simple explanation is Prince William realises it’s good for a Dad to spend a day out watching sport with his daughter as he has spent time with his son previously!”
