There are just 24 hours left until Prince George turns 12 on Tuesday 22nd July and has to follow the controversial rule that comes with it.

This time tomorrow, the eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be just one year away from being a teen and will therefore be expected to begin taking on more public-facing roles as he gets older.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are also parents to Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

George, who is second in line to the British throne behind his father, will have to begin abiding by some long-standing royal protocol as he gears up to one day become King.

While 12 may seem young, Prince William had to follow the same traditions when he was young, as he did King Charles III himself.

And one of the rules that is set to come into play tomorrow has left fans of the royal family from all around the world divided.

The new rule in question is that George will no longer be able to travel with his father in order to protect the line of succession.

In simple terms, it’s been put in place to ensure that in worst case scenarios, for example, a plane crash, there will still be an heir to the throne.

Although it’s very unlikely circumstances and we hope neither William or The King will be leaving us any time soon, the preparations do have to be made just in case.

Understandably, some people don’t agree with this rule and think it’s unfair and a little outdated.

One Facebook user wrote: “That is so old school-let him stay with his family,” with a second agreeing: “That's ridiculous the next King after William.”

“I think they have to do this to keep the Monarchy safe. But couldn't his mother fly with him? Or Charlotte?” questioned another.

Others added: “I hope that he adjusts to separation well. Good luck George we are all with you in spirit” and “I thought they were modernising their way of thinking. Why separate the children?”

Meanwhile, another stated: “Too sad, even if it is the rule” and someone else chimed in with: “Not fair. This rule is archaic and unnecessary! There's always someone next in line to the throne!"

However, other royal fans understand the need for the rule and have rightly pointed out that he’s still able to travel with his mother and siblings.

One social media user quipped: “His family has been in this position for years. He is fully aware of his role. I’m proud of him holding it down.”

A second chimed in with: “Lol that's a common thing when it comes to keeping the next in line to the throne alive in case of an emergency. That's nothing big but common practice when royals use any transportations.”

“And he won’t be flying alone, his mother would always be with him,” a third user pointed out.

Others penned: “Awwwww. Sad really. But his Dad did it. He will be fine” and “It’s to protect the royal line. It's been a tradition for years! The Queen bent the rules once when Diana died!”

“He’s a future king so safety is most important,” wrote someone else.
