Prince William didn't hold back on his response about going bald after making a rare public appearance earlier this week.

On Tuesday (11 March), the royal visited a referee training course as part of a campaign to recruit more people from Black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds into refereeing roles.

William, who is patron of the Football Association, visited the course at Sporting Khalsa FC in Willenhall in the West Midlands just one day after his appearance at the Commonwealth Day service in London alongside his wife, Kate Middleton.

One clip from the walk-through which is making its rounds on social media shows William greet a number of people including one woman who was sporting a bright red pixie cut - something which clearly caught his attention.

"Look at your hair! It’s fantastic," William said to the woman before playfully teasing: "Wish I had hair like that.

"I know, I’ve not a chance!"

And this is far from the first time the father-of-three cracked a joke at his own expensive regarding his hair - or lack thereof.

Back in 2020, at the launch of his environmental award, the Earthshot Prize, William addressed the crowd: "I don’t know if you guys have heard about the Earthshot Prize, but it’s an initiative I started about two years ago.

"Now, although it’s been about four years in the making, I had hair when it started. It’s designed as an environmental prize tackling the world’s greatest environmental problems."

Despite no longer having much hair on top of his head, William seems to have an abundance of it when it comes to the beard department after previously boasting a more a clean-shaven appearance during public endeavours.

Fans first came face-to-face with a beardy-looking William last August, when he and wife Kate Middleton recorded a home-video and posted it to Instagram.

In the clip, the Prince of Wales could be seen joining a reel filled with famous faces - including David Beckham, Snoop Dogg and Emma Willis - congratulating the athletes who competed at the 2024 Olympic Games last summer.

"Well done @teamgb, what an incredible journey!" the caption read.

It wasn't the royal couple's sweet message that attracted mass attention from viewers, instead it was William's new look, after the future king could be seen rocking the beginnings of a beard.

In fact, the beardy debut sparked such a response that fans have even coined the phenomenon as 'The Prince William' effect!
