Meghan Markle has opened up a little more about what royal life was like before she and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped down as senior royals in 2020, following relentless abuse fuelled by the British media, which often had overtones of racial discrimination.
The Duchess of Sussex, whose new season of her show With Love, Meghan dropped on Netflix yesterday (26 August), sat down for an interview on YouTube's The Circle with Emily Chang, where she candidly explained why she once felt 'inauthentic'.
Discussing what it was like adjusting from a life in Hollywood to a life in Buckingham Palace, Meghan recalled one item of clothing she was made to 'wear all the time' despite it not being 'very herself'.
Now, while she didn't directly state this happened whilst she was still an active member of the UK royal family, she did say it took place 'several years ago'.

"I hadn't seen pantyhose since movies in the 80s when they came in the little egg. That felt a little bit inauthentic. And that's a silly example."
Meghan, who tied the knot with Harry back in 2018 after first going public with their relationship in 2016, continued: "But it is an example of when you're able to dress the way you want to dress and you are able to say the things you want to say that are true and be able to show up in a space that is really organically and authentically, that's being comfortable in your own skin.
"Of course, I have had different chapters in my life. But right now I don't feel I need to prove anything."
The Duchess of Sussex opened up about adjusting to royal life in a new interview (YouTube/Bloomberg Originals) In the latest season of her lifestyle series, Meghan recalled a period of time where she and Harry were separated from their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for three weeks.
"The longest I went without being around our kids was almost three weeks. I was...not well," she shared.
While she never explicitly states when this happened, it is believed that she was talking about the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral, when she and Harry travelled to the UK and stayed for the funeral procession.
Harry also wrote in his memoir that they 'couldn’t let them [Archie and Lilibet] out of their sight' when arriving back home in the US.
