Hollywood actor gives surprising 3-word verdict on working with Meghan Markle

The Duchess of Sussex was spotted filming an upcoming comedy-drama titled Close Personal Friends in Pasadena, California, last year

In 2025, after an eight-year hiatus, the Duchess of Sussex made a highly anticipated return to the entertainment industry.

This comeback has now been highlighted by insights from one of her new cast-mates, who shed light on the realities of working alongside royalty.

Meghan's team confirmed last year that the 44-year-old would be working on a comedy-drama film titled Close Personal Friends. She was first spotted on set in Pasadena, California, back in November, after which it was alleged that she'd be making a cameo.

An insider told PEOPLE at the time that the ex-Suits actress was 'very relaxed and happy' to be back in front of the camera, adding: "She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth."

Another source told The Sun that the project marks a 'massive moment' for Meghan, and 'signifies a return to doing what she truly loves'.

"It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set," they added.

It wasn't until this week, however, that the mother-of-three's new co-stars were granted permission to discuss the upcoming flick with the press.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, actor Jack Quaid described his experience on set with Meghan as 'insane'.

"Yeah - no, it was insane," he gushed.

"The main cast of it is myself, Brie Larson, Henry Golding and Lily Collins, which is just an incredible group of people to be a part of," the 33-year-old continued. "Every day we went to set, and we just tried our best to make each other laugh."

Quaid - the son of fellow film star Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan - went on to discuss the project more generally.

"I thought it was going to be more of a rom-com - I’m calling it a com-rom," he claimed. "I think it’s more comedy-forward, slightly.

"But it's about two couples, I don’t know if I can say anything else, but I just had a blast making that movie."

Meghan was forced to take a step back from showbiz in 2017, shortly after her engagement to Prince Harry became public knowledge.

Following their 2018 wedding, she became a senior working royal - a role she resigned from two years later, with her and Harry citing mistreatment from several members of the monarchy.

She and Harry threw themselves into both humanitarian and production work in the years that followed through their brand Archewell.

Since moving from the UK to Montecito, California, Meghan has also launched her bespoke lifestyle brand, As Ever, and fronted a Netflix docuseries, With Love, Meghan, which gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at her home in the hills and an insight into her A-list dinner parties.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Close Personal Friends is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and directed by Jason Orley.

Apparently, it centres on a couple that meet and befriend a celebrity duo during a trip to Santa Barbara, after which personal lines get crossed, among other things, and awkward hilarity ensues'.

A release date for the big-name production hasn't yet been revealed.
