Meghan Markle defended as people point out one major issue with 'As Ever' holiday collection

Meghan released her first ever Christmas collection with her brand 'As Ever' yesterday (28 October)

Meghan Markle has sparked a fierce debate online after launching her first ever holiday collection with 'As Ever'.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, first launched the brand back in April and her first round of products quickly flew off the shelves, selling out within an hour of being made available. Her debut collection included a slew of store cupboard goodies such as flower sprinkles, raspberry jam, honey, crepe and cookie mixes, and an assortment of different teas.

And now, Meghan has branched out with a Christmas collection, which launched yesterday (Tuesday 28 October) and includes homages to her hubby Prince Harry and her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

It includes more teas and spreads, with a few completely new products thrown in there, such as a 'Spiced Cider Mulling Spice Kit' ($16) and two candles, priced at $64 each.

The first candle, 'Signature Candle No. 084,' smells of water lotus, sandalwood, and California poppy and is described as being inspired by 'the signature scent that warms Meghan’s family home'.

For those who didn't spot it, the number is also a nod to Meghan's birthday - August 4th.

While 'Signature Candle No. 519' is described as smelling like 'Moroccan mint, cardamom, and tea leaves' and the date pays homage to her wedding day to Harry, May 19th.

Like anything Meghan puts out there, everyone has an opinion on it, and some people are more brutal than others.

Some critics are slamming the candles for being too expensive, and have pointed out that there's no way for people to smell them before committing to buying.

One Twitter user penned: "#MeghanMarkle is selling $64 dollar CANDLES, 2 jars of honey for $62 and jam trios for $42. She has lost her MIND. $64 for a candle you can’t even smell to see if it’s any good until it gets to your house? An unproven brand? No thanks. I’ll take my Bath & Body Works candles all day every day for 1/3 the price."

While a second added: "That’s such a good point. I will occasionally buy Yankee Candles online but only because it’s a scent I’m familiar with. I think candles are almost as personal as perfume."

And a third wrote: "That candle is so small!!! Is it even two wicks or just one? Even Nest candles are not that expensive!"

"Meghan Markle has lost her freakin mind selling $64 candles. What sets her candles apart from other brand like Voluspa, Jo Malone & Diptyque? We don’t even know what it smells like," quipped a fourth.

However, others have rushed to defend Meghan and point out that as it's supposed to be a luxury brand, the price point isn't really that shocking.

One fan explained: "$64 for a luxury 241g candle is not a lot friends.. in fact it’s right in line with candles from other luxury brands like Jo Malone & Le Labo. The issue is that you view Meghan & her As Ever brand in the same league as *checks notes* Bath & Body Works which is actually laughable."

A second wrote: "Awww nice things do cost money. Sorry you can't afford it. But shame you don't understand that her items are within the market price range and less."

A third agreed: "People aghast at the price have obviously never bought Byredo or Diptyque candles, which often start at €60. Honestly, they’re not the target customer, so why are they blowing their tops?"

And a fourth penned: "This!!! The price is very reasonable in comparison to other quality candles. They're not meant to be cheap chain store candles. I got both candles and can't wait to smell them!"
