A royal stylist has revealed the meaning behind the Princess of Wales' outfit as she touched down in Italy for her first international solo trip in more than three years.

Kate Middleton, 44, got a warm welcome to the city of Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy today (13 May), as she greeted the cheering crowds, who lined the streets near the city’s Piazza Prampolini.

The trip also marks Kate's first official overseas trip since undergoing cancer treatment, after she made her diagnosis public in March 2024, for which she underwent chemotherapy.

The royal confirmed that she's in remission in January last year and since then has been slowly returning to royal life, with this solo trip marking a huge milestone.

Kate will spend the working visit with The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, where she will learn about an innovative approach to early years teaching for children.

Pictures from the princess's grand arrival show Kate sporting a stunning powder blue suit, which, as per Hello! Magazine, is by Edeline Lee.

She seemed to be in high spirits as she teamed the statement piece with a white blouse and a blue handbag to match the fashionable two-piece.

Over the years, Kate has established a distinctive sense of personal style, which she has become known for.

Speaking about the psychology behind it, Oriona Robb, royal and fashion stylist, told Tyla: "One of the most interesting aspects of Kate’s wardrobe is her use of colour psychology.

"She frequently gravitates towards blues, which naturally evoke trust, calmness, and dependability, all qualities strongly associated with leadership and reassurance.

"Softer pastel tones make her appear warm and approachable, while deeper royal blues create a stronger sense of authority and sophistication."

The expert outlined that green is another recurring colour in her wardrobe, which is 'often linked to renewal, balance and compassion, particularly during appearances connected to wellbeing or community-focused initiatives'.

Robb added, "Kate's style has become synonymous with what I’d call 'quiet authority' dressing.

"She rarely follows trends aggressively and instead leans into timeless tailoring, structured silhouettes, and elegant simplicity, which reinforces the image of stability and confidence.

"There’s a consistency to the way she dresses that feels incredibly intentional, every outfit communicates polish without appearing inaccessible or overly curated."

The princess also 'understands the power of silhouette' and so 'often chooses clean lines, cinched waists and structured coats or dresses because they create a polished and composed visual identity'.

The stylist continued: "Unlike celebrities who may use fashion to shock or dominate headlines, Kate’s style is designed to feel emotionally steady and reassuring.

"That’s part of why audiences respond so positively to her wardrobe; it feels aspirational but still relatable."

Robb explained that another 'defining feature' of Kate's style is the 'balance between luxury and accessibility'.

"She regularly re-wears outfits or mixes high street fashion with designer pieces, which subtly humanises her image and makes her feel more connected to the public.

"In many ways, her fashion choices act as a form of soft communication, she uses clothing not just to look elegant, but to project reliability, grace, and emotional intelligence," she said.

Meanwhile, also speaking to Tyla, psychologist Dr Patricia Britto agreed that Kate's fashion choices 'help create a sense of emotional consistency and trust'.

She explained: "People are naturally drawn to public figures who appear visually calm, composed, and predictable, particularly during periods of uncertainty, and Kate’s wardrobe reflects those qualities extremely well.

"Her clothing rarely feels chaotic or attention-seeking, which psychologically reinforces perceptions of stability, control, and resilience."

The expert added, "There’s also a strong element of relatability in the way she presents herself.

"Re-wearing pieces, favouring softer tailoring and avoiding overly extravagant styling choices helps reduce the emotional distance between herself and the public.

"Her image strikes a balance between aspiration and accessibility, which is incredibly powerful psychologically because it allows people to admire her while still feeling connected to her on a human level."
