Princess Kate returns to work in first official duty after finishing chemotherapy

Kate Middleton broke the news of her cancer diagnosis back in March

Six months after revealing she'd been diagnosed with and was receiving treatment for cancer, Kate Middleton has this week returned to royal duties.

The latest update comes just days after the Princess announced she'd concluded chemotherapy, confirming the news with a heartfelt video alongside Prince William and their children George, Charlotte and Louis posted to the Wales' official social media accounts.

In a statement released on 22 March this year - after weeks of speculation over her whereabouts - mother-of-three Kate announced she was undergoing 'preventative' treatment for cancer, though opted not to disclose which form of the disease she was fighting.

In the months that followed, the public only received a handful of Royal updates regarding her wellbeing, as well as a few rare glimpses of the 42-year-old, including at her first public appearance at this year's Wimbledon tournament, where she received a heartfelt standing ovation from crowds.

A video of Kate and William wishing this year's Team GB Olympics luck ahead of the 2024 tournament was also released last month.

And just last week, the future Queen shared a tear-jerking home video alongside her family-of-five where she revealed she'd concluded treatment and would be returning to Royal duties in the coming weeks.

Kate's final promise was yesterday (17 September) fulfilled, after she held her first meeting at Windsor Castle since finishing chemotherapy.

A new entry made to the official Court Circular of engagements read: "The Princess of Wales, Joint Patron, The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, this afternoon held an Early Years Meeting at Windsor Castle."

The video shared last week saw Kate open up on the past nine months, where her health began with surgery on her abdomen, describing it as 'incredibly tough for us as a family'.

She also described her experience with cancer 'complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone', claiming it gave her a 'new perspective on everything'.

Narrating over a series of images of her children playing outdoors, Kate continued: "Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus.

"Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

"I am, however, looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.

"Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life."
