Most of the British royal family have already released their Christmas cards for this year.

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla were first to jump on the annual tradition, closely followed by Princess Anne, then Prince William and Kate Middleton, before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Many other royal family members from across the globe have also shared their seasonal greetings, including one royal family who were deposed decades ago.

Now, the Christmas card was shared by Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece over the weekend (20 December), featuring herself and Crown Prince Pavlos, together with their children, Princess Maria-Olympia, Prince Constantine-Alexios, Prince Achileas-Andreas, Prince Odysseas-Kimon, and Prince Aristides-Stavros of Greece and Denmark.

A screenshot of the Christmas card has since been shared to the 'Royalsgossip' thread on Reddit, where one user posted it alongside the caption: "The Deposed Greek Royal Family's 2025 Christmas Card."

"I am new here. What is the context behind this? Are they not really royals?" questioned one Redditor.

The Greek royal family were deposed, or overthrown, on June 1, 1973, when the ruling military junta abolished the monarchy and declared a republic.

The reason behind the forced removal was due to intense political instability, a 1967 military junta coup and a failed counter-coup by King Constantine II.

Following the dictatorship, a democratic referendum formally abolished the monarchy, as the institution was viewed as unpopular and a relic of a divided past.

Fellow royal-savvy Redditors relayed this information as a second explained: "Technically they are royal by blood.

"Since Greeks are pretty much related with Danish and Spanish royals (We're talking about aunts, siblings, first cousins). Even they are on good graces with the Brits.

"But Greek Monarchy was deposed in the 70s due political issues but they have never been a stable monarchy. They went to exile at least 3 times before that."

A third echoed: "Long story short in layman’s terms… the handsome fella in the direct middle is Pavlos, and his dad was the last King of Greece.

"When Pavlos was born in 67, he was the heir because the monarchy still existed at that point. When it was abolished in 73, he stayed forever the crown prince. His father became the 'head of the royal family' as an official title and he took it when his dad died a few years ago. Pavlos’ children are all pictured and because he was born a crown prince, his children get the titles of prince and princess out of respect for the title, not really out of respect for them tbh."

The more you know - eh!
