People have been left seriously spooked by the numerology surrounding Zohran Mamdani's inauguration as New York City mayor yesterday (1 January).

If you need a reminder, the 34-year-old Democratic Socialist was sworn in in a historic former subway station below City Hall just after midnight, placing his hand on a Quran as he took his oath as the city’s first Muslim mayor.

And that's not all - Mamdani made history in more ways than one as the first NYC mayor of South Asian heritage, and the first born in Africa, as well as the first Millennial to take on the role.

He reigned victorious in the Big Apple's mayoral race on November 4, pipping Republican activist Curtis Sliwa and independent former Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo to the post.

Accompanied by his wife Rama Duwaji, he said following the private ceremony: "This is truly the honour and the privilege of a lifetime."

But it's not just Mamdani who feels this way, as people believe his election has something of a cosmic significance - let's break it down.

So, as we know, Mamdani was sworn in on New Year's Day, which this year is 1/1/26.

While this might seem like nothing special, speaking in terms of numerology, it's actually the rare alignment of 1/1/1.

This is because the numbers in the date add up to 10 (2+6+1+1).

Then, we add those numbers together, so 1+0=1, which leaves us with one or 1/1/1 - this is a triple-one sequence for the month, day, and year.

The 1/1/1 date is very rare, having last occurred in 2017 and not set to happen again until 2035. It also signals the start of a new nine-year numerological cycle.

According to Medium, it's also spiritually a very important day for manifestation, also known as a portal day.

The website describes it as 'a cosmic reset so potent that what you set in motion on this day will ripple through the entire decade ahead'.

On top of this, the number 111 is significant in numerology as an 'angel number' signaling new beginnings, opportunities, and manifestation.

Whether you believe in this kind of thing or not, you have to admit it's pretty spooky, not to mention Mamdani also has 1.11million followers on Instagram at the time of writing, which someone on social media pointed out.

And, he almost became the 111th mayor, before it was realised he should actually technically be categorised as NYC's 112th mayor.

Pointing out the numerology, one Twitter user wrote: "Not to be *that* person but the 111th mayor??? And having his inauguration on 1/1????? New beginnings for New York City for sure."

While a second and third chimed in with: "And the year is 1. So it's 1/1/1 via numerology" and "Not to mention, 2026 is a 1 year. So he’s the 111th mayor of NYC, inaugurated on 1.1.1."

Others agreed: "oh he’s golden…" and "And in a 1 year!!!! The world is healing."

"I smell a NYC come back," predicted someone else, while another Twitter user wrote: "YAYYYY!!! I’m excited about this".

And someone else clarified: "He's the 111th mayor, 111 represents new beginnings/opportunities and growth ... New York is in good hands guys."
