Donald Trump has just announced that he wants to to the rename Department of Defense with a chilling new title, and everyone’s making the exact same point.

On Monday (25 August), the 79-year-old Republican brazenly stated his plans to ignore the need for an Act of Congress to change the name of the DOD, which was named under America's 33rd US President Harry S. Truman, who aimed to improve efficiency and cohesion in the US military.

"We call it the Department of Defense, but between us, I think we’re going to change the name," he told reporters during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the White House.

Later that day, in a separate event, Trump said he wanted the name change because 'we want defense, but we want offense, too'.

Yep, Trump suggested in the next few weeks he would revert to the pre-1947 'Department of War' name, which was used until shortly after World War II.

And, when asked how he planned to do that when it requires an Act of Congress, he simply declared: "We're just going to do it. I'm sure Congress will go along if we need that. I don't think we even need that.

"It just to me, seems like a just a much more appropriate… the other is, 'Defense' is too defensive. And we want to be defensive, but we want to be offensive, too if we have to be. So, it just sounded to me better," he added.

People couldn't help but point out the irony in the proposed 'war' name change, especially considering he believes he 'deserves the Nobel Peace Prize' after having 'ended seven wars'.

One X user quipped: "Well that should help with his bid for the Nobel Peace Prize."

"So now he wants the Nobel 'War' Prize too?" questioned a second while a third lamented: "Peace Prize material, for sure..."

A fourth chimed in: "Definitely a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize."

"Let's give THIS guy a peace prize," sarcastically jabbed a fifth while another piped up: "So much for the Prez of Peace. RIP. Why not call it the Department of Distraction, while we're at it."

And a final X user commiserated: "The 'peace' president everyone..."

Trump has made 'no secret that he would love nothing more' than winning the prestigious accolade, according to Sky News, with suggestions he is a worthy candidate stretching back to his first term.

"They will never give me a Nobel Peace Prize. I deserve it, but they will never give it to me," he said during a press conference back in February.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt has mentioned his team's calls for him to be awarded the prize at several White House briefings, describing him as the 'peace president' and saying it is 'well past time'.
