Kamala Harris reveals eerie reason why you should only ever use wired headphones

Kamala Harris has started a debate over whether wireless or wired headphones are better in public

We all know there's nothing worse than heading for a long commute and realising you've left your headphones at home.

Having to listen to inane conversations, people on loudspeakers, or playing TikTok videos out loud for several hours, what fun!

But before you put your AirPods in and tune out next time, Kamala Harris says you should think twice.

There was a time when wearing wired headphones would get you laughed at, but then people started losing their wireless ones every five minutes and they've started to become acceptable again.

According to High Snobiety, earbuds are out, and wired headphones are officially cool again. However, it's not just a fashion statement, according to the Democrat leader.

Harris made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in her first televised interview since the presidential race.

This comes after it was announced that the show will soon be cancelled, and there has been a serious spat between Colbert and Donald Trump.

As well as having a major dig at Trump herself, Harris shared a surprising warning about earbuds.

Colbert showed a recent photo of her wearing a hoodie and wired headphones, along with some other never-before-seen photos from her book, 107 Days, to which Harris responded: "That's me on a call, you'll see my phone is on my lap."

"I know I've been teased about this, but I like these kinds of earpods that have the thing [points to the wire] because I served on the Senate Intelligence Committee," she explained.

She continued telling the host: "I have been in classified briefings, and I’m telling you, don’t be on the train using your earpods thinking somebody can’t listen to your conversation.

"I’m telling you, the [wired earphones] are a little bit more secure."

Social media users were rocked by her confession, and rushed to Twitter to share their thoughts.

"A politician warning you about how 'they' are listening to you is all you need to know!" exclaimed one.

"I mean yes, she said something right for once," added another. "Bluetooth can be intercepted. However, if you're reading this comment, you're not important enough for that to ever happen to you, so go ahead and stick to the wireless earbuds."

One praised: "You just summed up why old-school privacy advice hits different coming from someone who actually worked on the infrastructure. People like to clown on 'wired headphones only' types but once you've seen the guts of tech policy or security briefings, that kind of paranoia starts to sound downright sane."

This commenter made a very valid point about new technology and the lack of a standard headphone jack: "Except most newer phones don’t even have a port for the wired headphones anymore."

Not everyone agreed it was as simple as Harris made out: "She's 'Technically' correct - But Bluetooth is encrypted post handshake using ECDH keyx and AES-CCM-128 for encryption. It's literally gonna take someone at NSA level to break it."

They continued, reassuring: "So for you and I? no - no-one is gonna break it... But for a the leader of the government there is a minor threat. If you can even get close enough to reliably execute this attack is another topic onto itself."

Food for thought for next time.
