JD Vance has become the butt of an internet joke after his own attempt at humour didn't go down so well.
The US Vice President, 41, pledged the Trump administration’s continued support for firefighters at the IAFF’s (International Association of Fire Fighters) Alfred K. Whitehead Legislative Conference yesterday (9 March).
Speaking to firefighters in Washtington DC at the event, he told attendees: "There is no group of people that is harder working and more important for our communities than our firefighters."
However, before he got into all of that, he tried to make a joke that social media has not been left impressed by.

The politician came onto the stage to applause and said, "It's great to be here. It's great to have you in our nation's capital, everybody. This is a very big group."
Vance then looked around for a moment before adding, "I can't see any of you because these spotlights are glaring bright."
He added, "The person who runs these spotlights must be a Democrat because I cannot see a single person in that crowd. But I'm told there's about 700 of you out there."
Watch the moment here:
The joke was met with a small grumble of laughter at the event, but people online have been quick to slam the 'sad attempt at humour'. Ouch.
One X user penned: "AND THE CROWD GOES MILD," while a second questioned: "So exactly what is the joke supposed to be?"
And a third and fourth wrote: "He is so awkward," and "Why does he think he is funny?? His 'jokes' always fail!"
"Is the joke in the room with us?" someone else sarcastically asked, while another social media user wrote: "His attempts at humor are so.. so sad."
Making a gag of their own, another X user chimed in with: "The spotlights were trying to spot a good joke, this is all that was found apparently."
While someone else raged: "Why does he keep trying to tell jokes? They flop every time & are typically inappropriate!"
And others agreed: "Jokes are supposed to make sense" and "No, seriously, what? I can’t even see the joke."

It actually isn't the first time Vance has come under fire for his 'unfunny' jokes.
Just last month, at the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, in another video that's done the rounds online, he attempted to poke fun at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s pause during a Taiwan question at the Munich Security Conference.
Attempting to mimic her hesitation, he joked about freezing for 20 seconds himself; however, the audience didn't really get it and just responded with silence of their own.
Osacio-Cortez herself penned on X: "The only thing longer than my pause to think was their silence to his joke."
Well, if politics doesn't work out, it looks like a comedic career is definitely not on the cards.
