A ceasefire between Israel and Iran was announced by the Donald Trump last night, during which the US president made a very specific five-word request of both parties.
The unexpected update came during the early hours of this morning (23 Jun), just two days after 79-year-old Trump 'totally obliterated' three nuclear sites in Iran. The week prior, the country was subjected to a missile attack from Israel.
The Republican leader had initially set a two-week window to decide whether militant intervention between the two countries was necessary, though it emerged yesterday that he'd acted prematurely after Iran made a sleeper-cell terror threat to American citizens.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin applied pressure to the situation the same day, by announcing his allegiance to Iran following a meeting in Moscow with the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and accusing Trump of 'absolutely unprovoked aggression' in the Middle East.

Iran also responded yesterday by launching an attack on a US base in Qatar.
Tragically, however, both Iran and Israel sustained loss of life last night during the deadliest evening of the strikes so far, with Israel having confirmed the deaths of at least four individuals in the south.

The Iranian government also confirmed that nine people had been killed, 33 injured and four homes destroyed in an attack in the north of the country over night.
In the hours since Putin's announcement and Iran's latest move, Trump has announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, writing on Truth Social this morning that peace between the pair is 'now in effect'.
Taking to his personal social media site, he also issued both countries with a stern five-word statement, asking them: "Please do not violate it!"
Unusually, at the time of the American's announcement, neither Iran nor Israel could confirm that a ceasefire agreement had actually taken place.

According to the BBC, at the time, Israel hadn't publicly accepted any agreement, whilst Iran claimed the peace has been 'imposed' upon Israel - though, they themselves had agreed.
Trump gave both countries a deadline to agree to the terms of the 'complete and total ceasefire', which he proposed would begin at 5am.
Hours later, however, the Israeli government confirmed it had agreed to the terms of Trump's ceasefire.

"Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire," an official statement agreed, adding that Israel had 'achieved the objectives' it needed to with its initial attack on Iran.
"Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defence and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat."
Trump had previously written of both countries: "On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on having the stamina, courage, and intelligence to end, what should be called, 'THE 12 DAY WAR'.
"This is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn't, and never will!"
