Donald Trump is facing backlash online after he made a pretty big blunder while talking about the UK, outside of the G7 summit in Canada on Tuesday (17 June).
The slip-up in question happened while the 79-year-old American president was announcing a trade deal with the UK, alongside its Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
He was beaming as he stood next to the Labour leader, holding a pile of important documents and telling reporters that their ‘relationship is fantastic’.

Despite accidentally dropping the ‘historic’ papers on the floor, things appeared to be going well with both world leaders seemingly happy.
Looking at Starmer, Trump said: “We all know the great Prime Minister of the UK and we just signed a document.”
He then continued: “And so we have our trade agreement with the European Union…and it’s a fair deal for both.”
But as we all know, the UK hasn’t been a part of the EU since Brexit back in 2020. Awkward.

As the Republican leader continued, Starmer opted not to correct him and instead stood silently as he continued with his speech.
Trump, who left the summit early, added: “It will produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income and we have many, many other ones coming.
“The level of enthusiasm is very good. The relationship that we have is fantastic, so I just want to congratulate you.”
But although Starmer kept quiet, you can always rely on the internet to have their say - and people have been quick to respond to the mistake, slamming the US President for his blunder.

Replying to the video on X, one user wrote: “Embarrassing. Honestly. Don’t we deserve better as a nation??”

Others chimed in with: “When you don't know what you are doing…” and “Nobody told him about Brexit.. the UK has only been out of the European Union for the last 5 years…”
Someone else added: “The look on the Prime Minister’s face, but he knows better than to correct Trump.”

Meanwhile, another wrote: “How embarrassing for the US to have a President like Donald Trump who thinks the UK is part of the EU. He doesn't even know about Brexit.”
“Trump claiming he knows the UK Prime Minister and that the US just signed a deal with the EU is peak confidence from a guy who clearly skipped Brexit,” added someone else on X.
And that’s not the only thing eagle-eyed social media users noticed.
People also picked up on the fact that a number of the ‘historic’ documents were seemingly blank, which only added to confusion.

“Did anyone notice that the Trade Deal Trump was holding and dropped was blank! Every single page was blank and they were scrambling after he dropped it to hide it so nobody could see that!” someone wrote.
And another added: “I don’t know about you, but they look like blank pieces of paper to me, with Trump’s signature on a single piece of paper.”
