The world was left reeling yesterday (25 June) after Donald Trump leaked his own text messages with NATO’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte.
The American President, 79, left nothing hidden as he decided to share a screenshot of the long and surprising message, in which Rutte praised him for his ‘action in Iran’.
He also told Trump he would achieve something ‘NO American President in decades could get done,’ before worryingly claiming ‘Europe is going to pay in a BIG way’.

Although it was originally posted to the Republican leader’s own social media platform, Truth Social, the message has quickly made its way around the globe - but there is one question people are asking.
But before we get into that, take a look at the message in full: “Mr President, dear Donald. Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran, that was truly extraordinary, and something no one else dared to do.

“It makes us all safer. You are flying into another big success in The Hague this evening. It was not easy but we’ve got them all signed onto 5 percent!”

Rutte was, as we know, referring to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Iran - something the US got involved with when the Trump administration launched strikes on three of Iran's nuclear sites over the weekend.
The message also comes as all member nations are set to formally agree to spend 5 percent of their gross domestic product (GDP) on defence, which Trump has been pushing for.
He continued: “Donald, you have driven us to a really, really important moment for America and Europe, and the world. You will achieve something NO American president in decades could get done.
“Europe is going to pay in a BIG way, as they should, and it will be your win Safe travels and see you at His Majesty’s dinner!”

But, not everyone was originally convinced of the text message’s authenticity.
People took to X (formerly Twitter) to question: “Is this genuine?” and insist they're 'not buyin' it'.

Meanwhile, a third boldly claimed: “It's fake! that's not how Dutch person texts.”

“His message is almost certainly fabricated or part of a political stunt,” added someone else.
Shocked, other social media users asked:“Jesus is this real?” and “Is there any evidence this was actually a message from Rutte as opposed to Donald Trump forgery?”
However, a spokesperson for NATO has since confirmed to Tyla that the message is indeed real and was sent from the Secretary General to the president yesterday.
So, if anyone’s messaging Trump anytime soon, make sure you’re happy with millions of people seeing it first!
