The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has sensationally shut down Donald Trump this week following the President's response to the ongoing Los Angeles riots by using a Taylor Swift reference.
For those out of the loop with the turbulent political climate in the States at the moment, a series of protests erupted last Friday (6 June), prompted by the news that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers had carried out raids in areas with prominent Latino populations, according to the BBC.
The order formed part of Trump's vow to launch the 'biggest deportation operation' in US history as part of a 'complete restoration of America', and he recently set up a goal for ICE officials of at least 3,000 arrests per day.

This included entering establishments such as workplaces, shops, and hospitality venues looking for individuals who had allegedly overstayed their visa limit, the BBC further reports.
Naturally, the raids sparked an outcry in the famously diverse city of Los Angeles, and a full-fledged campaign broke out and is still ongoing.

Responding himself, the Republican leader subsequently ordered another 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to deploy to the city following an initial deployment of 2,000 troops.

57-year-old Newsom later criticised Trump for the move, explaining that he cannot legally call in the National Guard to a state without permission from the Governor of that state.
In an old clip from ABC News, the politician also warned that US Marines 'shouldn't be deployed on American soil facing their own countrymen to fulfil the deranged fantasy of a dictatorial President. This is un-American'.
Newsom has since fired another shot in the 78-year-old's direction, sharing a now-viral TikTok that fans have since branded 'genius' - and even better, it includes a Taylor Swift song.
In the clip, Newsom shares the lyrics from Swift's track 'You Need To Calm Down'; specifically the line 'Say it in the street, it's a knockout', alongside a photograph of him giving Trump a telling-off.

Then, he shared the next line, 'But you say it in a tweet, that's a cop out' alongside a screengrab of a post written by Trump, in which he complains that neither Newsom nor mayor Karen Bass' can't do their jobs'.
For those unfamiliar with the lingo being used here by Swift in the song, she's calling out keyboard warriors for issuing damning tweets online but being unable to follow through in person.
Newsom then shared a final image of Trump alongside the lyrics to the next like, 'And I'm just like, hey, are you okay?'.
"America's keyboard warrior," the governor also penned in the caption.

The burn will likely feel particularly painful for Trump, who declared in all-caps on Truth Social last September after the singer's endorsement of Kamala Harris: "I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!"
As we say, Newsom's TikTok has since garnered millions of viewers, with many users congratulating the politician on his quip.
"That's my governor. Proud California girl right here," one fan gushed in the comments.

Another added: "Whoever runs this account is a genius. Using Taylor Swift music is a top-tier burn."
"Wanting to move to CA just to vote for this man!" a third admitted.
"The TAYLOR song, you did him dirty," noted another.
