Donald Trump has surprising reaction to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement

Following the internet-breaking news that Taylor Swift is engaged to Travis Kelce, her age-old 'frenemy' Donald Trump has issued a pretty unexpected statement.

For those in need of a reminder, the Grammy-winner and Republican leader have ceaselessly butted heads over their opposing politics in recent years, with 79-year-old Trump often firing brutal shots in Taylor's direction.

Most recently, after the 'Cruel Summer' hit-maker publicly endorsed 2024 Democratic candidate Kamala Harris back in September following the presidential election, the right-wing leader voiced his 'hatred' of Taylor.

"I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT," he wrote on Truth Social in response.

And in the months since, he has repeatedly taken aim at the musician - including after she was infamously booed during the 2025 Super Bowl earlier this year, an event that Trump also attended.

Afterwards, the right-wing leader shared a screengrab of a post shared by an X account called 'Libs of TikTok' showing clips of the booing, which was captioned: "Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed – The world is healing."

Weeks later, he also shared an AI-edited image of Taylor holding a Republican flag, which stated: "Trump won, Democrats cheated!"

And as recently as May, he launched another unprovoked attack on the 'Love Story' chart-topper, 35, writing on X: "Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she’s no longer 'HOT?'."

As we say, however, the President has since addressed the exciting news of Taylor and Travis' engagement, which was announced yesterday.

And whilst left-leaning voters might have expected Trump to veil his congratulatory remarks in criticism of the big-name couple, he actually seemed pretty pleased for the nearly-weds.

Asked about the news by a reporter during an hours-long Oval Office cabinet press conference last night (26 Aug), the politician replied: "Well, I wish them a lot of luck."

Trump went on to claim of Travis: "I think it’s— I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy and I think that she’s a terrific person.

"So I wish them a lot of luck."

Taylor confirmed she and NFL star Travis' happy news on Instagram last night (26 Aug) with a photo 'dump', showing the couple posing adoringly together in a rose garden in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Whilst one photo showed 35-year-old Travis getting down on one knee to ask the his singer beau the all-important question, another showed Taylor sporting her colossal engagement ring.

The rock is understood to be old mine brilliant-cut diamond in a gold bezel setting designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery.

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," the couple captioned the snap.
