Denmark's citizens have savage response to Trump's Greenland takeover attempt

Donald Trump claimed America 'needs' Greenland for 'national security' purposes

Residents of Denmark have reportedly levelled-up in their response to Donald Trump as he continues to threaten the 'takeover' of Greenland.

According to local news outlets, a petition was filed by citizens of the Scandinavian nation at the beginning of January, and is aimed at giving the US leader a taste of his own medicine.

As a reminder, Trump previously claimed he 'needs' the self-governing territory - which is technically situated within the Kingdom of Denmark - for 'national security' purposes.

Experts predict, however, that the 79-year-old also seeks to take advantage of Greenland's vast mineral wealth.

Leaders from both Greenland and Denmark subsequently slammed his plans as 'fantasy', with hordes of other world leaders also taking a stance condemning Trump after he refused to rule out military force when postulating the country's takeover.

Piling the pressure on, the president also hit eight NATO nations with a series of scandalous new 10 percent tariffs this weekend, threatening to drag them up to 25 percent by June if they fail to support his mission.

His administration even claimed it was 'actively' discussing a potential offer to buy Greenland - though, citizens of the Arctic space have made it clear that their home is not for sale.

As we say, however, it's not just Greenland and Denmark's political allies that have condemned Trump's latest threats, with Danish citizens now having filed a petition to purchase California right back.

In a show of solidarity, the appeal was first developed by a group known as 'Denmarkificaion' earlier this month, in a bid to play the Republican as his own controversial game.

It offers to buy the West Coast stretch, so that Denmark can claim they own the territory, in the same way that Trump plans to attain Greenland.

"Have you ever looked at a map and thought… #You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates," the petition's official website now reads. "Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality.

"Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!"

It points out that the American is 'not a big fan' of California anyway (referring to his beef with the state's liberal leader, Gavin Newsom - and that the Danes are willing to offer Trump a 'lifetime supply of pastries' if the deal goes ahead.

"He’s called it ‘the most ruined state in the Union'," the appeal continues. "And has feuded with its leaders for years. We’re pretty sure he’d be willing to part with it for the right price.

"And hey, we’ll even throw in a lifetime supply of Danish pastries to sweeten the deal. As for the will of the citizens?"

It adds: "Well, let’s face it - when has that ever stopped him? If Trump wants to sell California, he’ll sell California."

It's probably worth noting, however, that the petition isn't so much of a political plea, but a message of sarcasm aimed at demonstrating how bizarre and unconstitutional the right-wing leader's takeover plans truly are.

Despite this, it has already gained well over 280,000 signatures.
