Donald Trump brutally shuts down reports of ‘peace talks’ with Elon Musk after their public argument

The US president has provided an update on his fall out with the tech boss

Following a bitter online slanging match against Elon Musk last night, Donald Trump has claimed he has no intentions of sitting down and talking things through with the tech boss.

For those out of the loop with the bitter confrontation, shots between the pair were initially fired by Musk following his departure from the Department of Government Efficiency co-lead role last month.

Now, ABC reports that, following a phone call with the president earlier today (6 June), the Republican sounded 'remarkably unconcerned' about the heated social media exchange, which saw a number of damning accusations made.

The publication added that Trump shut down their questions over a meeting that had supposedly been arranged between himself and Musk.

"You mean the man who has lost his mind?" the outlet says Trump, 78, replied, adding that he's 'not particularly' interested in a resolution.

The president reportedly went on to say that though Musk wants to talk to him soon, he doesn't want the same.

The Tesla CEO originally said his resignation from the Trump administration was simply due to his limited term in the role reaching its end.

"As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," he wrote on X on 21 May.

"The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."

Days later, however, he began criticising Trump over a number of his controversial policies and financial decision-making - specifically with regards to the right-wing leader's backing of a 'big beautiful bill' that would increase the deficit by nearly $3 trillion by 2034.

"I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing," he told CBS of the decision.

And on Tuesday, Musk rehashed his concerns surrounding the hefty bill, writing on X: "I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore.

"This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

Aggrieved, Trump went on to tell Oval Office attendees yesterday: "Look, you know, I've always liked Elon, and it's always very surprised you saw the words he had for me, the words and he hasn't said anything about me."

He added: "But I'm very disappointed, because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here."

Hours later, Musk launched a further online attack, claiming of the President's statement: "False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!"

The billionaire also accused Trump of being affiliating with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files," Musk wrote in another tweet. "That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!"

It's important to note, however, that any mentioning of Trump's name in said files - which are investigative materials compiled by federal agencies in relation to Epstein's crimes - does not imply any wrongdoing on his part.
