Barron Trump defended after being called out over ‘ear thing’ during dad’s inauguration

Barron Trump has been defended after a move he pulled during his father’s inauguration yesterday (20 January) received criticism.

The event, which saw Donald Trump become the 47th President of the United States, had some rather controversial moments.

For example, Elon Musk was accused of performing a ‘Nazi Salute’ on stage, and responded on his platform X to hit back at the accusations.

The Tesla and SpaceX billionaire is said to have thrown his hand up during a speech at the celebratory rally at Capitol One Arena in Washington, as he told crowds about how much they have his ‘heart’.

After floods of people came after him for the alleged sign, Musk took to social media to quote a previous tweet, in which he claimed Democrats would launch a campaign of ‘dirty tricks’ against him.

He added: "Frankly, they need better dirty tricks.

"The 'everyone is Hitler' attack is sooo tired."

Another moment that caught viewers' attention involved Trump’s youngest son, Barron.

Known as the tallest of the Trump clan, Barron has been mostly out of the limelight since his father first took to the presidential office in 2016.

It all began when Barron was mentioned by his father on stage as Trump asked the crowd: “Have you ever heard of him?”

He then went on to introduce his 18-year-old son, as having won over ‘the youth vote’, crediting him for helping him to win the election.

"I have a very tall son," Trump said. "He knew the youth vote. We won the youth vote by 36 points. He was saying - 'Dad, you have to go out and do this one or that one'. We did a lot of them. He respects them all, he understood them very well."

That’s when Barron got one of the biggest cheers of the evening, the BBC reports, and as he stood and thanked the crowd, he was seen putting his hand to his ear.

On social media, viewers were quick to share their thoughts on the gesture.

One wrote: “He was fine until he did the ear thing…”

Another said: “Don’t ever raise your children to Act like this.”

However, many have since defended the teen, with some claiming he either meant it as a joke or that he was simply showing his ‘human’ side.

One viewer commented: “Pls stop, some can’t hear laud noises. It’s louder in their ears than it’s in reality. Or vice verse. Be kind. Kindness reflects who you are.”

Someone else added: “Imagine being controversial because he did an ‘ear thing’…?!?!”

Another claimed: “Maybe its joke from young man.”

The hand-on-ear movement appears to be something Barron did to either hear the crowd or to signal ‘I can’t hear you’, which could in turn make people cheer louder.

While nobody knows the real reason for his movement, the 6ft 7in lad seems to have built himself a bit of a fanbase.
