Lindsay Clancy juror's left ‘shocked’ after ‘disgusting’ re-enactment during trial

After the Lindsay Clancy case ended in a mistrial, jurors have been coming forward to share why they were unable to reach a unanimous decision, as well as other ‘shocking’ details, such as a ‘re-enactment’ that allegedly took place.

The 36-year-old admitted to killing her three children, Callan, eight months, Cora, five, and Dawson, three, on 24 January, 2023.

Her defence argued that she could not be held criminally responsible for their deaths because she was allegedly suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time. Prosecutors, however, argued that she acted ‘intentionally’ and ‘rationally’.

On 4 September, the six-week trial in Massachusetts ended in a mistrial when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy was guilty of murder.

US law states that once a case is over, jurors are able to speak publicly if they wish to about the trial and their deliberations.

The three female jurors have since told NBC News that the panel was ready to enter a verdict that Clancy was not guilty by way of insanity, but one male juror - who has not been identified - would not agree.

And in an interview with Good Morning America, one of the male jurors, Nick Dargie, claimed that the lone holdout tied the exercise band around a water bottle and pulled on it.

Dargie said: “I was shocked. We’re not in here to play detective. It’s not a game of Clue,” before calling the alleged reenactment ‘disgusting’.

He also claimed that the holdout didn’t use any evidence to back up his guilty vote, adding: “There wasn’t a single piece of evidence or witness testimony that he used to prove why he was thinking the way he was.”

It comes after the jury foreperson told NBC: “I was so sad, so sad that we couldn't come up with a verdict for Lindsay. It was so heartbreaking.”

She added that the deliberations were difficult and filled with ‘lots of crying’ and ‘lots of tears and then hugging’.

The foreperson also claimed that the lone juror had ‘admitted he had reasonable doubt and I started filling out the forms, I was so excited’.

But, halfway through doing so, he allegedly told the panel: “But I'm still not going to say that she's not guilty by reason of insanity.”

Another juror, who remained anonymous, told CBS station WBZ-TV that the majority of the jury was ‘very firm in their stance,’ and the stand-alone juror ‘was not the only one that was unwilling to see things from the other side’.

She said: “So, I'm going to kind of defend that individual in a sense. There were some big personalities in that room. But at the end of the day, it just came down to an inability to move past your convictions.”
