Australian police have revealed that they are investigating the sexual assault claims against Katy Perry by Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose.

This week, Rose, 40, took to social media to publicly claim that the 41-year-old American singer assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub 20 years ago, writing: "Katy Perry sexual [sic] assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks."

She declared that she had 'finalised all of her reports' with the authorities on Tuesday (14 April), after Perry's rep called the allegations 'categorically false' and 'dangerous, reckless lies'.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told the Daily Mail on Wednesday (15 April): "Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.

"Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

In a statement to Variety, Perry's representative said: "The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies.

"Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

Rose said the alleged incident took place when she was in her early 20s, in a string of posts on Threads.

She wrote: "I’m now 40. It has taken almost 2 decades to say this publicly. Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me."

Describing the reported encounter in detail, she continued: "She saw me 'resting' on my best friend's lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side, and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.

"After it I threw up on her, I told the story publicly, but changed it to be a 'funny little drunk story' because I didn’t know how else to handle it.

"Later, she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret. But I DID tell y'all she wasn’t a good person."

She wrote that 'as a woman, for a myriad of reasons, opening up about W on W [women-on-women] violence and sexual abuse, seems to be 100 times harder than speaking about the male predators, at least for me'.

Rose initially declared she was 'not interested in filing a report over this,' adding that 'you don’t need people to believe you, you just need to get it out of your poor body, before it gives you cancer'.

However, she later alleged that she 'just left the police station' and would share more 'once I get my strength back'.

She finished with: "Perry is more than welcome to sue me (she won’t, because it happened, I have photos, and it was literally in public and witnessed by multiple people)."

The actor later issued a fresh update, writing on Threads: "Hi! Last update on this:

"As of this afternoon, I have finalized all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved.

"It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not. This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief.

"I can start the healing process now. And temporary [sic] move forward. I love you all so much."
