The seven-year-old boy involved in a seaside tragedy on Essex Beach that killed a mother and her daughter has died in hospital.

The family of Musa Ahmed, who'd been enjoying a day trip to West Mersea last week, and Essex Police have confirmed his passing to Tyla.

Along with five relatives, the boy had gotten into difficulty while swimming on Wednesday (22 July).

He was airlifted to hospital, where he remained until his death.

Shelina Rahman, 41, and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha, however, died at the scene.

Musa's family say he died 'in a state of ease and peace' at the Royal London Hospital on Tuesday (28 Jul).

Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher from Essex Police has said in a statement: "All our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved – as has been the case since this incident took place last week. Their bravery and strength has been humbling.

"We continue to build a complete picture of the circumstances which led up to this incident and our work is continuing alongside our partners."

The family also shared via the police: "We would also like to thank the Royal London Hospital intensive care unit team of doctors and nurses who demonstrated outstanding care and dignity whilst we have been at the hospital.

"We would also like to thank the whole community for their support and prayers. We would appreciate privacy during this very difficult time."

Musa's father, Shahin Ahmed, called for 'a review of safety measures' following the incident last week.

In his initial statement, he thanked residents and visitors to the beach who showed 'exceptional courage, kindness and selflessness as they rushed to assist,’ as well as the emergency services, air ambulance crews, coastguard personnel, and medical staff.

"I strongly agree with the calls from local residents for a review of safety measures at West Mersea Beach, including the provision of additional life-saving equipment and clear warning signage," Shahin continued.

"While no action now can undo the pain we are suffering, we hope lessons can be learned to help prevent similar tragedies from happening in the future."

The husband of Shelina Rahman, Sameeha's father and Musa's uncle, also spoke out last week for the first time since the incident unfolded. The mum, who was in her 40s, had worked as a teacher, while their daughter was a student.

Dr Mansur Rahman, 49, said: "It is with profound sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that my beloved daughter and my beloved wife passed away following a tragic accident on Wednesday. By the will of Allah, they returned to their creator after drowning in the water."

He added: "I would also like to thank everyone in our community who has called, sent messages, and reached out to support us during this difficult time.

"I have not been able to answer many phone calls, but please know that I have not intentionally ignored anyone. The overwhelming support, love, and prayers from all of you mean more to us than words can express."
