Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk, has been accused of child sex abuse, according to a New York Times investigation.
The publication has claimed that the now 79-year-old businessman has sexually abused five of his children and stepchildren since 1993.
The investigation alleges that a significant factor in Elon's strained relationship with his dad stems from these accusations.

Reportedly, relatives have contacted the Tesla boss, 54, for help and he 'has sometimes taken action to intercede'.
In response to questions from The NY Times, Errol reportedly said 'the reports are false and nonsense in the extreme'.
He added that the 'accusations were concocted by family members who were “putting the children up to say false things” and that they were trying to get money from Elon Musk'.

According to the publication, Errol also allegedly claimed to be aware of only one abuse allegation, but in the same message offered explanations for the circumstances around two others.
He added that he has a good relationship with son Elon and they 'are very close'.
Meanwhile, Elon and his personal lawyer reportedly didn't respond to the publication's request for comment.
The NY times has cited personal letters, emails, interviews with family members, and police and court records as part of its investigation.

In 2010, one relative reportedly wrote Elon a five-page letter about the accusations, asking him to intervene - however, it's unknown whether he ever read it.
It allegedly read: "We really need your advice, help and guidance in these matters because we daily see these children suffer."
According to the publication, Errol has at least nine children and stepchildren and has been married to three women.
However, Elon has been estranged from his dad for many years and has previously branded him a 'terrible human being'.

In an interview with Rolling Stone back in 2017, speaking about his father, Elon said: "You have no idea about how bad. Almost every crime you can possibly think of, he has done. Almost every evil thing you could possibly think of, he has done."
He added: "He was such a terrible human being. You have no idea. My dad will have a carefully thought-out plan of evil. He will plan evil."
The tech boss went on to confirm that he does not communicate with his dad in a 2023 biography.
