Donald Trump Jr’s ‘disrespectful’ joke about his dad during Charlie Kirk’s funeral leaves people confused

The son of Donald Trump has faced criticism for the joke he made during Charlie Kirk's funeral yesterday (21 September)

Donald Trump Jr has come under fire for an 'inappropriate joke' he made during Charlie Kirk's funeral yesterday (21 September).

For those not up to speed, the 31-year-old right-wing activist was remembered with a lengthy memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, which tens of thousands of Americans attended.

It comes after he was fatally shot while speaking at a university event in Utah on 10 September in front of crowds of horrified onlookers.

Members of the public queued for hours to be let into the venue for yesterday's event, while high-profile figures such as Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Elon Musk, were also in attendance, each giving a speech on stage.

Also among the speakers was Donald Trump Jr, the eldest child of the US president and his first wife, Ivana, who paid tribute to Kirk, describing him as being like a 'little brother'.

The American businessman, 47, began his speech by saying: "I'm not widely known for being a sentimental guy.

"Anyone who's seen me on social media knows I'm far more likely to crack a joke or get myself in trouble for posting some grossly inappropriate memes than I am to shed a tear."

He continued: "I know this, because I've even gotten the call from that guy a couple of times," pointing up to his dad, who was watching from the stands.

Trump Jr then went on to impersonate his dad, joking: "You know Don, Don you're getting a little aggressive on social media Don, relax."

Although the crowd cheered and Trump appeared not to mind, it's safe to say that cracking a joke at a funeral and doing an impression hasn't gone down too well on social media.

One Instagram user penned under the video: "Wow they are making jokes at a funeral."

While a second questioned: "Is there ever a low point?"

Another added: "Where has this world come to?"

Shocked, a fourth angrily penned: "Never seen anything like it!!!! All about them. Shame on you. You are at a memorial not a Trump rally!!!! So disrespectful!!"

While a fifth asked: "Are you sure this was a memorial??? Looks more like America’s Got Talent."

However, not everyone found it disrespectful and some people did seem to enjoy the gag, writing: "Lol. I love it! That was good. Listen to your dad, he knows best!"

A second commented: "Wow nice I love that."

Someone else praised: "Haha that was great."

After cracking the joke, Trump Jr's speech did take a more serious turn, as he went on to say: "But last week, when I received word that Charlie, who was like a little brother to me, had been assassinated, I was truly devastated. We all were.

"And we're here today to celebrate the way he lived his life and to remember the way he changed so many of ours."
