Charlie Kirk’s close friend Candace Owens slams widow Erika over conspiracy theory

The political commentator claimed that Erika had 'Meghan Markle syndrome'

Charlie Kirk’s close friend Candace Owens has just taken aim at widow Erika after she publicly dismissed conspiracy theories about the killing of her husband.

On a recent episode of her podcast, Owens suggested her response raised red flags and accused Erika, who has now taken over from Kirk as the new CEO of conservative organisation Turning Point USA, of trying to shut down questions about alleged inconsistencies in the case.

Owens even went as far as to claim that Erika was displaying symptoms of what she coined 'Meghan Markle syndrome', which she defined as 'where you want privacy when you want it, you want publicity when you want it'.

The political commentator has repeatedly pushed claims, without evidence, that the government is withholding information and has hinted at foreign involvement.

Erika has since addressed the speculation in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday (10 December), where she rejected the conspiracy narratives outright.

"Come after me," she said. "Call me names. I don't care. Call me what you want. Go down that rabbit hole. Whatever. But when you go after my family, my Turning Point USA family, my 'Charlie Kirk Show' family. When you go out for the people that I love, and you're making hundreds and thousands of dollars every single episode going after the people that I love, because somehow they're in on this? No."

"This is righteous anger because this is not okay," Erika continued. "It's not healthy. This is a mind virus. Yes, I believe in our judicial system. I do. We have a hell of a team working on this — excuse my French - but this is not okay."

She added that she remains steady and does not intend to 'address the noise'.

Owens responded quickly, devoting a substantial portion of Wednesday’s podcast episode to attacking Erika, claiming that her Fox News interview 'completely missed the mark'.

"I am sorry it just has," she added.

Owens, who previously described her relationship with Kirk as 'like a brother' to her, focused on Erika’s remark about not having the time to engage with conspiracy theories, noting that she has given multiple media interviews in recent weeks.

"None of this is passing the vibe check," Owens said. "You are not changing my mind about the fact that something weird happened that day and that TPUSA is acting funny because you give an impassioned plea and speak about Nehemiah on Fox News."

Kirk was shot and killed three months ago while addressing a large audience at Utah Valley University. Authorities say the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, acted alone.

Tyla has reached out to Turning Point USA for comment.
