Football team praised for subtle but savage response to Donald Trump gatecrashing trophy celebration

Football fans think Chelsea have got their own back in a hilarious way on social media

Chelsea have been praised for their subtle but hilariously brutal response to Donald Trump gatecrashing their trophy celebration at the Club World Cup on Sunday (13 July).

The American President, 79, attended the final match with his wife Melania as they watched on from a private box at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The London team won the sports tournament after beating recently crowned Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 3-0.

However, the Republican leader caused some backlash among football fans when he didn't move off the podium after presenting the UK team with their trophy and instead stuck around to lift it up with them.

This meant he was in almost all of the pictures and videos of Chelsea’s all-important moment, despite of course, not being part of the team himself.

But, now fans seem to think the football club has got their own back and made their feelings on the matter quite clear.

Following their victory, the club posted a photo of the team on Instagram where they’re holding up their silverware alongside the text: “World Champions. Again.”

And social media users were quick to notice that a certain someone was almost completely absent from the picture, despite his antics.

That’s right - it seems like Chelsea opted for a snap where the majority of Trump was hidden behind the other players.

You can only slightly see his face poking out from the back, and Instagram users think it’s a dig at the president.

Some even believe that, while photoshopping the huge trophy onto the artwork, whoever edited the snap may have also purposely tried to make the world leader less noticeable.

In the comments, people joked: “thank god y'all removed trump” and “If only we could photoshop Trump out of all our lives.”

A third added: “Chelsea’s response to this made my whole day! fabulous photoshop!”

Meanwhile, a fourth penned: “As an American thank you for picking a pic where Trump can barely be seen.”

Others wrote: “thank god you removed Trump” and “Thank goodness for photoshop.”

Elsewhere, someone else hilariously added: “I just became a fan of you guys.”

And another social media user added: “You guys photoshopped Trump out,” alongside a slew of laughing emojis.

More sports fans quipped: “Finally a picture without Trump…” and “Should’ve used photoshop and completely removed him”.

Someone else joked: “Good choice for the photo! You can barely see him. Congrats.”

Elsewhere, another user pointed out: “No guys, they haven’t removed Trump from the photo, only took the moment when he is behind Pedro Neto and Cole Palmer…"

It comes just after it was revealed that as well as getting involved in the celebrations, Trump also got to take home the real trophy and Chelsea were given a replica.

He told press that FIFA Officials actually gave him the real Club World Cup trophy, months before the game.

Ahead of the final, Trump told DAZN that the real trophy was sitting in the Oval Office after he was given it back in March.

He told the broadcaster: “They said, ‘Could you hold this trophy for a little while?’ We put it in the Oval Office.

“And then I said, ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy?’ He says, ‘We're never going to pick it up. You can have it forever in the Oval Office. We're making a new one.

“And they actually made a new one. So that was quite exciting…It’s in the Oval right now.”
