Donald Trump issues four-word response after Rory McIlroy brutally trolls Team USA's golf defeat

The American president, 79, has publicly responded to the video message he received from Team Europe

Donald Trump has issued a blunt four-word response to Team Europe trolling him after their nail-biting Ryder Cup win against the US.

For those not up to speed with the huge sporting news, yesterday (Sunday 28 September) Team Europe won the Ryder Cup outright, beating the United States 15-13 at Bethpage Black in New York.

Every two years, 24 of the best players from Europe and the US go head-to-head in match play competition, and this year, despite a fightback from the Americans, Team Europe took home the win.

Once the American side realised it was over and they couldn't bring it back, they began to leave in crowds through the exits.

Among the winning team was Northern Irish professional golfer Rory McIlroy, who said following the victory: “We did what we needed to do and we are going to celebrate like there is no tomorrow.”

And it seems like they did exactly that, as they made sure to taunt the US President himself with a playful video following their thrashing of Team USA.

Video footage popped up of McIlroy and the rest of the European team holding the trophy in their locker room as they chanted out: "Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?"

Trump, who is known for his love of golf and himself has courses around the world, was quick to respond to the jibe.

He reposted the video on his Truth Social account and penned: "Yes, I'm watching. Congratulations!"

It comes after the Republican leader made an appearance during day one of the golfing tournament on Friday (26 September).

He whipped the crowd up into a patriotic frenzy, walking Bryson DeChambeau to the first tee and then embracing US captain Keegan Bradley before taking his place behind a transparent screen.

His presence prompted chants of 'USA' among the crowd before a playing of the national anthem was accompanied by a military aircraft flyover.

Bradley, who also bowed down in front of the president, later said Trump there will be a lifelong memory.

“It was great. That was really a cool experience,” he said, "Seeing an active president on the grounds of a Ryder Cup or at a golf event, what a cool thing.

“The flyover with Air Force One, I’ll never forget that the rest of my life. It was really cool.”

However, following the tournament, McIllroy has said the police dogs should have been let off leashes after his wife was struck by a beer cup amid the tournament.

The sportsman was heckled throughout the three days at Bethpage Black by the crowd, who attempted to distract him as he prepared to play shots.

Footage emerged on social media on Sunday showing the incident where McIlroy’s wife was hit by the beer - she was not hurt but understandably, looked shocked.

McIlroy said: “Erica is fine. She’s a very, very strong woman. You know, she handled everything this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has.

“I love her and we’re going to have a good time celebrating tonight.”
