Katie Hopkins has taken to Twitter to criticise Jesy Nelson this afternoon - but Little Mix fans are having none of it.

Katie, 45, decided to write a scathing tweet about the Little Mix star, posting two of Jesy's most recent Instagram images and calling them "desperate".

"These desperate daily pics are showing that contrivance of a documentary to be darn insincere," she wrote.

"Girls. Be better than this. Beauty is in strength, not weakness that needs validating daily."

Little Mix fans rushed to defend Jesy, 28, with many in shock that Katie had made such comments, considering the uproar after she was mentioned in Jesy's heartbreaking documentary, Odd One Out which aired last year.

In the doc, Jesy opened up about her first encounter with the world of online trolling when X Factor producers asked Little Mix to get on social media. Instantly, Jesy was bombarded with hundreds of vile messages from faceless trolls, crushing her self confidence.

For the first time, Jesy spoke bravely about the devastating effect online trolls have had on her mental health - including her own suicide attempt.

In one scene of the documentary, Jesy revisits a series of hurtful tweets, including one sent by Katie following a Little Mix performance on The X Factor.

"Packet Mix have still got a chubbier in their ranks. Less Little Mix. More Pick n Mix," she tweeted at the time.

"All I remember feeling at that time is what's the f***ing point," said Jesy.

"I've starved myself for a week and I'm still getting called fat. I could be the skinniest girl in the world and this is never going to go away.

"That is the pinnacle point for me when I got severely depressed and it just spiralled out of control."

Following the documentary, Katie was slammed for the tweet, with many viewers taking to Twitter to voice their anger.

Fast-forward to her comments this afternoon, fans were even more furious, with several jumping to defend the pop star yet again.

One tweeted: "Aren't you the same woman who made this young lady feel that she WASN'T beautiful how she was and made her feel the need to completely change herself? why are you so obsessed with her? just let it go.. why are you judging by what you SEE? why not judge by the actual truth? [sic]"

While another wrote: "She's posting photos because she finally feels comfortable to share them. She has always worked hard on her body.

"This is not a case of validation, this shows no sign of weakness, this is a confident woman posting photos of herself feeling good."

"Girls should be proud to be like jesy! that woman has been through so much and survived. she is stronger than ever. nobody needed your opinion. nobody cares. support women instead of hating on them," pointed out another.

Jesy meanwhile, took the opportunity to post another selfie this afternoon. Posing in a crop top and cargo trousers, she captioned the snap: "Have another one hun," alongside a winky face.

Hmm, we wonder who that could be aimed at?!
