Boyfriends are great, aren't they? Not only do we love them for date nights, morning cuddles and heavy lifting, there's nothing better than when they go off-piste trying to show us how much they care. They might fail in getting it right more times than not, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Case in point? Trips to the make-up counters for our Christmas pressies.

Make-up artist Jodie Dodrill took to Twitter saying: "The clueless boyfriends who come into the beauty counters at Christmas are the best honestly they have my heart. A man asked me for the foundation yesterday, thinking there was only one shade."

She followed this up with: "When I showed him all the shades he just pissed himself laughing and said "ah well atleast I tried" alongside three laughing emojis.

Since then, people have been sharing their own experiences of male make-up counter fails, and they are absolutely adorable.

"I love when they come in and they say they don't really know what they're looking for but they start explaining things like 'you know that little brush think you brush your makeup on your eyelashes?? She uses that stuff' it's so pure."

Another added: My favourite was when I used to work at se*hora and it was before UD had so many naked palettes, this guy came in frantic, he needed "the long eye color thing". Turns out he needed a naked palette, but wanted to be safe so he bought all they sold at the time. Precious lmao."

"My OH went into the Jo Malone store and when asked what fragrance he wanted he asked for Jo Malone," said a third.

Bless.

"My favourites were the ones who came into bath and body works and asked for the stuff in the 'pink bottle'. I used to take them around and have them smell anything in pink packaging until we found the right one," added another.

"When you have to go an ask for blusher from some poor young girl on a counter...which is called Orgasm. Cheers NARS," said one guy keen to share his story.

And it turns out it's not just make-up they get confused with either.

"Omg yes lol I worked at PINK too. My fave were the men just staring at the panty bar STRESSED! I'm all explaining the difference between cheekies and boyshorts and they're all just like "yeah, she likes purple" so oblivious & adorable," said one saleswoman.

While one florist added: "I used to get these dudes when I was the florist "I want roses." How many?" "...Lots?" it was darling."

As it so happens, it turns out dads can be just as adorable as boyfriends too, with one girl saying: "I remember one year my dad went to Ultra to get me some face masks for Christmas. He went up to the counter and asked one of the ladies for a good face mask for his daughter. Poor guy was so clueless."

Another shared: "Off topic from an S/P but I'm still shook from that time my dad got me the whole pink moisture surge Clinique skincare line. I was like...HOW did you know??? These area truly my morning routine go to products. It's expensive AF, I'm down to the last drop & HOW did u know??!

Keep on being adorable guys...we see you!
