The mum-of-two thought staff were joking when they said her four-week-old baby wasn't old enough for the 15-rated film.

A mum was refused entry into the cinema because her four-week-old baby wasn't old enough for the 15-rated film.

Catherine Buckley went to Cineworld in Shrewsbury to see A Star Is Born on Tuesday, when she was told she wouldn't be allowed in.

As the mum-of-two and her sister approached the cinema, they were told: "We're not sure you can take her in, she's not 15," despite them already having tickets for the film.

"We thought they were joking, but they said no, we actually couldn't take her in," Catherine told the BBC.

Defending its staff, Cineworld released a statement saying the staff member was acting in accordance with the age restriction law, however, Catherine argued that her four-week-old baby "wouldn't know what was going on at all".

She said: "I understand that there has to be rules and legislation in place but they're asleep for 18 hours a day.

"She can only make out near shapes... she wouldn't know what was going on at all, so is she not allowed to sit at home and watch the news?"

According to IMDb, the content of the film is unsuitable for children, including 73 uses of the F-word, frequent drug use and a few non-graphic sex scenes - although we're not too sure the baby would notice those.

Cineworld told the BBC: "In line with the British Board of Film Classification's rules, Cineworld is not allowed to let anyone under the age of 15, including babies, into films that are classified as 15 or over.

"We are sorry this customer was disappointed but this is a mandatory law that Cineworld staff have to follow.

"We allow babies into all films that are classified as 12A and under.

"Staff at Cineworld Shrewsbury were acting in accordance with the age restriction law."
