Weddings. They're meant to be a beautiful celebration of love, commitment and joy as two people come to together to embark on a wonderful new chapter together.

Well - at least for the most part.

From last-minute wardrobe malfunctions to drunken speeches, it's more than normal for weddings to have a few hiccups here and there.

But one wedding recently took it to whole new level with 80 guests rushed to hospital, supposedly 'poisoned' following a four-course meal.

The horrific ordeal took place over the weekend (27 April) in Cuernavaca, Mexico, with footage of the incident later posted to TikTok, which has since been taken down from the platform.

According to reports, around 100 guests were left seriously ill after eating the food served up and were seen being helped into ambulances with subsequent photos showing paramedics treating patients.

One of the guests was Aranza Rodríguez was who taken to a hospital which was being run by the Red Cross, where she received treatment for a bacterial infection.

She opened up about the traumatic situation with local newspaper, Proceso, where she revealed that she had been attending the wedding as one of the groom's guests.

The bash kicked off in the late afternoon around 4pm with food set to be served up just a few hours later at 6pm.

However, Aranza only got to the venue hours later between 8pm - 9pm and was shocked to see many guests were already experiencing 'aggravated symptoms'.

Without getting too graphic, such symptoms included diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches, and stomach pains - all of which are so not ideal for wedding festivities.

She said she ate her meal at about 10pm, which consisted of wild mushrooms with goat's cheese and tomato coulis to start with alongside chicken breast stuffed with spinach, tarragon, and sweet potato purée, and asparagus.

While Aranza is not totally sure which of the dishes she ate made her sick - she did end up having to be carried away from the venue and later arrived at the hospital where she was placed on an IV.

Aranza made sure to note that both the bride and groom have provided assistance to guests who became sick at the party.

According to local outlet, Azteca Noticias, many guests were released from hospital after four to five hour, however a few still remained in hospital as of Monday (29 April).

Since the ordeal, footage from the wedding dinner from hell have surfaced online showing the aftermath of the alleged food poisoning, including one clip showing two women on a chair appearing to have just thrown up.

It's not clear which part of the menu caused guests to become sick.

Not exactly a fairytale wedding, but definitely not one to forget either!
