Psychologist shares theory behind Miley Cyrus' 'rift' with dad Billy Ray after Grammys snub

Psychologist shares theory behind Miley Cyrus' 'rift' with dad Billy Ray after Grammys snub

The 'Flowers' hitmaker didn't mention her father in her acceptance speech or post-win Instagram upload

She's the name on everybody's lips right now as Miley Cyrus' career continues to sky-rocket from strength to strength.

Earlier this week, the Hannah Montana star, 31, was awarded her first ever Grammy in an incredible double-whammy win taking home two awards - Record of the Year and Best Female Solo Performance - for her hit 'revenge' track Flowers, which was rumoured to take aim at her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.

In her emotional acceptance speech, Miley thanked her 'mommy' Tish, sister Brandi and 'love' Maxx Morando for all their support.

One individual missing from her proclamation, however, was her father and former Disney co-star, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Concluding her speech, the star told viewers: "We are very excited. I want to thank everyone who is standing on the stage. I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear. Bye."

And while some fans may have believed leaving her 62-year-old dad out of her expression of gratitude could have been a 'heat of the moment' mistake, she also didn't mention him in her post-Grammy win Instagram upload.

Miley claimed she 'had all the perfect things to say but none of them could come out in this moment of shock', but again, Billy Ray received no recognition.

Rumours of a rift from Billy Ray first began following her parents' divorce, after which Miley reportedly 'sided with' her mother Tish, going on to support her subsequent relationship and marriage to Australian actor, Dominic Purcell.

Though Miley and Billy Ray are yet to address speculation of a fall-out, relationship expert Tina Wilson believes that this latest move would have undoubtedly had an impact.

Speaking exclusively to Tyla, psychologist Tina - who is also founder of the Wingman App - predicted that Miley has likely been experiencing 'complex emotions and challenges' since Billy Ray and Firerose - who is just three years older than herself - tied the knot.

"In cases where the parent remarries someone closer in age to their adult child after a split, it can challenge the existing roles and boundaries within the family," Tina explained.

"Despite being mature and independent, she might still struggle to come to terms with the changing dynamics within her family.

"Miley may have struggled to navigate their new role in the family dynamic, feeling caught between loyalty to their parent and discomfort with her father's new wife."

Tina also believes that 'feelings of competition or comparison' may have a part to play if Miley feels Firerose is 'encroaching on her relationship with her father'.

"This can create a sense of rivalry or resentment, further complicating the relationship dynamics and potentially causing emotional distress for all family members," she went on.

Miley's double Grammys 'snub' comes just months after she 'unfollowed' her father on social media.

"As the relationship with her father deteriorates, Miley's decision to unfollow him on social media could serve as a symbolic gesture of her emotional distance," Tina theorised. "Social media has become a significant platform for communication and connection, and choosing to sever that link can signify a significant rift in their relationship."

Touching on her decision not to mention him in her Grammys speech or Instagram post, Tina believes this could be Miley's way of 'expressing her hurt and asserting boundaries in response to feeling neglected or overlooked'.

"Ultimately, these behaviours could be Miley's way of signalling that their relationship has broken down and that she needs space to process her emotions and redefine her boundaries," Tina continued.

Offering her professional advice, she went on: "It's essential for the parent to recognise and address any concerns or insecurities their adult child may have about the remarriage.

"Open and honest communication can help lift tensions and encourage understanding and acceptance among family members."

Tyla contacted Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus' representatives for comment.
