Woman points out main difference between boys and girls clothes and sparks huge debate

A woman has pointed out an interesting difference between boys and girls clothing, and you can't 'unsee it'.

It's no secret that children's toys and clothes are marketed very different depending on gender.

It only takes one walk down the aisle of a toy shop to find a pretend pink hoover, and a giant blue truck.

And the same differences apply to clothes, with the traditional pink and blue theme living on.

As well as this, boys clothes tend to have more pockets, and have buttons and zips on the opposite side to girls.

Whilst this is slightly annoying, it's nothing major.

But Kirstie, who recently appeared on Giovanna Fletcher's parenting podcast, noticed another subliminal message in children's clothing - and once you've been made aware, you can't unsee it.

In the podcast, she says: "The animals that show up on clothes for boys and girls are completely different.

"For boys, the top animals that you're likely to find are sharks, a T-rex, and wolves.

"And for girls, it's rabbits, llamas, and then sort of little animals like Guinea Pigs."

She went onto explain what the underlying meaning behind this is.

"The thing about these is that what you'll see on boys clothes is predators, and what you see on girls clothes is prey," she added.

Mum to three sons, Giovanna replied to the guest, saying: "Once you've said that, I'm just like yeah!

"There's no rabbits on my kids clothes."

Kirstie replied: "This is one of those things when you see it, you can't unsee it."

People in the comments had mixed responses to the revelation, with some claiming that really, you can choose to put your kids in whatever you want.

One said: "I think we're looking too much into stuff.

"Here's a fun fact - you can actually buy clothes for your child from either the boys or girls section, it doesn't matter.

"Just go with what you want."

Another said: "Not all boys are predators and not all girls will be prey!

"The words are too harsh to be used for kids’ clothing context."

But others said that she had made a great point.

"As a trans person, this is how I think/feel/what I notice when it comes to everything gender related," one noted.

Another added: "There is no such thing as 'clothes for boys or girls', clothing doesn't have gender."
