Man’s ‘free pass’ request to wife after she gives birth leaves people disgusted

The bloke was blasted by social media users for making the audacious request

A man has sparked outrage on social media after his wife revealed he'd asked for a 'free pass' after she gives birth.

After turning to the notorious 'Am I The A**hole?' Reddit thread for advice, the woman was quickly informed that she was, in fact, not an a**hole.

In the post shared earlier this month, which has since gone viral, she explained that she is currently six months pregnant with her second child, who is due on 13 December.

The mum said the birth 'will almost certainly be a scheduled C-section', meaning she will likely need several weeks to recover from the surgery, according to the NHS.

However, this apparently clashes with her husband's plans for the New Year, as he had hoped they could head out of town to celebrate with his group of pals.

"My husband and I were talking about New Year’s plans," the social media user explained in her post. "I said I might be okay to travel outside the city with the baby and a group of friends, since newborns mostly sleep. He said, 'Okay, but if you change your mind, do I get a free pass?'

"I asked what that meant, and he said, 'If you’ll be okay with me travelling alone,' meaning leaving me at home with a newborn (and possibly our toddler, though she might stay with her grandmother)."

As she'd be less than a month postpartum, recovering from major abdominal surgery, breastfeeding and adjusting to life with two children, the mum-to-be was left pretty taken aback by her other half's request.

"I thought he’d obviously be home to help and support me - so I was shocked and hurt he’d even ask this," the post continued.

"He says he was 'just checking' in case I changed my mind about travelling, but I feel like it’s selfish to even consider leaving at that time. AITA for being upset and thinking he shouldn’t even be asking?"

Although those who responded in the Reddit thread appreciate a good party and a solo trip as much as the next person, they reassured the woman and agreed that her fella was being bang out of order.

A host of social media users urged her to get her spouse to read up on the gruelling recovery process which comes with undergoing a caesarean section.

One person said: "I don’t think your husband knows what a partnership is or how serious C-sections are if his first instinct is to leave you alone 2 weeks after giving birth…"

Another said: " A C-section, newborn, and toddler alone?! Was the husband even an involved parent the first time around? Because asking to go away for a trip is insane."

A third simply stated: "My eyebrows are sky high right now. NTA."

A fourth joked: "Unless he is travelling to get a vasectomy he shouldn’t be going anywhere. NTA, but you married one."

While a fifth added: "Maternal child health nurse here. No, this is unreasonable and insensitive of him to even ask. NTA."

Needless to say, the woman is probably having quite a stern word with her husband right about now.
