Meghan Markle sparks debate after revealing bedtime habit she does routinely for Archie and Lilibet

Meghan Markle has opened up about the sweet evening routine she has for her children.

Meghan and Prince Harry are parents to Archie, five, and Lilibet, three, and live in Montecito, California.

Over the last few months, Meghan has been opening up about her life at home, after releasing her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan and her lifestyle brand, As Ever.

This month, she also launched her own podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.

In one recent interview, Meghan opened up on her family life and specifically her bedtime routine with the kids.

Speaking on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, Meghan said she's created a secret email account where she sends messages and photos, for her children to read when they're older.

"I thought it was such a great time capsule to create for them because I used to love scrapbooks and photo albums, but we’re past that generation now. So I’d created for the kids these email addresses with names that you’d never guess," she explained.

"Before I go to bed almost every night, I email them, because it doesn’t have to be a heavy lift.

"And at some point in their life, I’ll say 'here’s an email that I’ve been keeping for you your whole life. Here’s everything and every moment where I wanted to tell you how much I love you and how proud I am of you'.

"For them to be able to look back and go, 'Oh my gosh, she has loved us so much!' That’s I think the best part about being a mom. […] It’s not about the grandeur of a gesture, it’s about 'I see you. I’m nurturing you and I love being able to see your growth'."

People have been praising Meghan for the idea, with many agreeing it's a very sweet gesture.

One person wrote: "This is so sweet. I’ll have to do this with my daughter."

While another said: "Think it’s a great idea. I’m starting to write letters to my children and grandchildren so they know how much I love them."

Of course, there was some negativity from people who couldn't understand the gesture, with one commenting: "Who wants to plow through 4000 emails. Time they'd never get back."

And another added: "Imagine finally becoming an adult and the first thing you have to deal with is 4000+ unread emails from your mom."

During the chat, Meghan also opened up on her life in California.

Meghan described it as like a 'honeymoon period' after their time in the UK.

During their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry claimed that the racism Meghan faced from tabloids was a 'large part' of the decision to leave. In the same interview, the Duchess also claimed that an unnamed member of the royal family had questioned Archie's skin colour before he was born.

Although Meghan did not address this directly in the podcast, she shared: "You have to imagine, at the beginning, it's all butterflies — but then we immediately went into the trenches together.

"Right out of the gate, like six months into dating. So now seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way.

"And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.

"If you haven’t noticed, my husband is very, very handsome. But his heart is even more beautiful."
