A woman claims one ‘weird’ step that everyone misses when cleaning the toilet is making their routine far more stressful than it needs to be.

While some find cleaning their homes the bane of their lives, others thoroughly enjoy the practice and find it boosts productivity and improves their mental health.

According to Danielle Roeske, Psy.D., vice president of residential services at Newport Healthcare, the physical act of cleaning can release endorphins that are ‘hugely beneficial as a pain reliever, stress reliever and overall enhancement of our well-being’.

Moreover, when there is structure to our outer environment, ‘it can help us feel more able to manage some of the internal feeling states and worlds’, the expert told Forbes.

But while cleaning has major benefits, the way you shine up your bathroom could be making more work for yourself than you could even imagine.

A popular TikToker who delivers easy home hacks, called @home_reimagined, has detailed a simple way to deep clean your toilet and the main reason why so many people fail to do it properly.

"This is your reminder to deep clean your toilet,” she stated at the beginning of a viral video.

The creator explained that many people forget to dust their toilets and end up just ‘pushing wet debris around’.

"I know it seems weird, but as with any cleaning, you need to start by dusting the toilet first,” she explained.

After successfully dusting down the loo, the social media star claims the next step would be to spray and wipe all of the exteriors before taking extra care on the flushing handles.

“Grab some paper towel and wipe the top and underside of the seat,” the woman continued before making a serious case for unscrewing your toilet seat.

“It’s always best to remove the toilet seat at this stage which usually only takes a couple of seconds to unscrew,” she stated, claiming you’d be ‘amazed’ at how much grime can collect underneath.

If you’re unable to take off your toilet seat or are simply pressed for time, it's advised you utilise a pressure steamer to ‘push all the gunk from underneath the seat’.

After filling the inside of the bowl with toilet cleaner, she advises you start scrubbing with a brush before cleaning the bottom of the toilet.

The TikToker added: “Ensuring you’re also getting the floor next to your toilet if you have any men in your home!”

After watching the video, viewers have come out in droves to debate the ‘hack’.

One TikTok user typed: "But this is how I always clean my toilet… Is there another way?”

Someone else remarked: “I never learned how to clean growing up so I appreciate these videos so much.”

A third commented: “Yes we agree this takes a little longer but worth the clean and shine.”

While another gushed: “Dusting helps so much.”
