People Are Putting Christmas Lights Up To Spread Joy

What a way to spread cheer in worrying times.

With people socially distancing, schools officially closing and businesses worrying about how they'll cope in the UK, the Covid-19 pandemic is starting to feel more real than ever.

But through this time of darkness, people are finding ways to bring joy into the world and one of those is putting their Christmas lights back up.

Through the worry and fear, people are installing twinkling lights on their homes to spread some happiness throughout their neighbourhoods - and we are totally on board with it.

One took to Twitter to post a picture of their lights saying: "We need more hope, kindness and cheer in this time of darkness and uncertainty so I plugged my Christmas lights back in on my porch."

Another added: "Since the snow has been too deep to take the Christmas lights down, I'm turning them back on. Because couldn't we all use a little light and hope right about now?"

"There are dark times ahead, but I can still put love & light out into the world. Some folks have mentioned putting up Christmas lights to cheer up people in quarantine, in isolation, or just to remind the world there's still light & hope. Here's my contribution," a third chipped in.

"Decided to turn our Christmas lights back on our house tonight. Figured the world could use bit more brightness," another social media user penned.

"My Christmas lights are back on, cause this is what I need right now," a fifth commented.

Some kids are even suggesting it: "My youngest son was bored today and said, 'can we put Christmas lights on our tree outside to cheer us up?' Great idea buddy. Lights are on tonight as a sign of hope and the sweet mind of my 10 year old," read one tweet.

We love the idea. After all, if you're stuck inside soon, it'll cheer you up just looking out of the window at your neighbour's string of twinkly bulbs.

A lot of these snaps have come from the US, but it's about time us UK dwellers followed suit, to. We could all do with the perk up right about now.

Plus, let's be honest, the more encouragement we can give people to stay inside, the better.
