Many of us will find any excuse not to exercise, whether it’s a slight headache or kidding yourself that you have to work late.
But Gordon Ramsay’s putting us all to shame, as he isn’t letting a restaurant empire or lucrative TV career get in the way of his fitness.
In fact, he’s currently in training for an Iron Man challenge – a long-distance triathlon race that typically involves a 3.8km open-water swim, 180km bike ride and a casual 42.2km marathon.

He’s been busy gearing up for the event with his coach, Chris Domiley, who posted a video on Instagram featuring a compilation of video clips.

Domiley captioned the video: “Chef Mode OFF. IRONMAN mode ON. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just sweat, sea, coastlines and serious grind.”
It’s certainly a respectable effort from a man who, less than a year ago, suffered a harrowing accident while out on his bike in Connecticut.

“Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” the MasterChef star wrote on Instagram at the time, as he posted a video where he lifted up his chef’s jacket to reveal vast, deep purple bruising across his torso.
“I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it. But I cannot tell you the importance of wearing a helmet.” he said.

While the accident clearly shook Ramsay up, it sounds like he was keen not to let it get to him.

Speaking to Men’s Health not long after, he said: “I could sit back, put my feet up, buy a boat and f**k off to the Caribbean, but I have no interest in that.”
Of course, it’s not just sheer determination that fuels Ramsay’s incredibly active lifestyle.
While Lucozade and Mars Bars used to get him through 16 or 17-hour shifts during his early days in professional kitchens, these days he's very careful with what he eats.
He told Men’s Health his daily diet consists of a protein shake in the morning and scrambled eggs for lunch, followed by ‘something poached’ for dinner like chicken or fish.

Whatever protein he goes for, he always chooses to have it poached – never boiled.
“Boiling it is going to give it a texture like f**king Gandhi’s flip-flop,” he said.
Ramsay explained he’s also learned how he has to eat small to stay on his game.
"You’re lethargic after you’ve eaten, right?” he added. “You’ve got to stay on your toes. It’s like a ballerina – tiny little mouthfuls, tiny little tastings.”
Men's Health explained how Ramsay's accident had 'slightly curtailed his training', but that in 'normal times', he begins every day of his working week with a workout.
"He’s usually woken up by his youngest sons, Jesse James and Oscar James, 5, at about 5.30am," the outlet said.
"After that, he does a quick run, stretch and a little bit of core work before heading off to work, which right now is taking him in and out of London’s Savoy hotel for tastings all day long.
"By 9.30pm, he’s usually back home having a quick bite to eat before heading off to bed. Although sometimes the pull of the Wattbike is so strong that he adds in another session.
"Weekends give him the time he needs to really push himself, usually with a 90-minute or two-hour session."
